My submission for the San Diego ComiCon program book. Every year they do a number of themes and invite people to submit art. This year the themes were: Star Wars 30th, Herge' and Robert Heinlein 100th, and the 25th anniversary of some 1982 debuting comics, including Groo the Wanderer, Love and Rockets, and Grendel. The Grendel Hunter Rose stories are one of the few comics I make a point to read, so I figured i'd make the time to do a picture this year (the only other two years I sumitted anything were for Elfquest anniversary tributes) I got the actual grendel artist/author Matt Wagner to sign the pic in my copy of the program guide (yes, very fangirlish of me, but why not?) and he actually commented on the pic, which caught his eye because I was the only person to draw one of the secondary characters. That made me feel like I'd accomplished something. Doing a pic that the 200,000 ComiCon attendees would all see was a nice bonus too. Photoshop tones over an inked original.
