Usually I wouldn't already post an update, but I made a major update to speed, which might hint on the potential still there.
The sky system has got some improvements, too.
On my 2.83 Ghz Core2 Quad with GTX 560 I can now crank view range up to 100 and still get about 120 FPS.
I already started coding another optimization that will at least improve perceived speed by calculating chunks closest to the player first.
Vegetation and Inventory are next on my list.

Left click REMOVES blocks, and right click ADDS blocks. It will add the same type of block that was removed last, so for now you pick blocks to place by removing one of the same type.
TAB or ESCAPE opens the menu when in the game.
W,A,S,D is movement.
Space is jump or when pressed repeatedly flying by "flapping" wings.
Numpad + and Numpad - Change time of day!

i've been playing with it. thanks for letting us btw. there's some things that seem a bit odd about it. took a while to figure out that to climb you need a running start and sufficient overheat clearance for a place to land. one thing, if you add a block where you are, you start falling, or it seems like you do. that world goes really odd. but if you keep going and jumping, it turns out you maybe haven't fallen into an infinite hole after all. i also had a problem with reloading a saved. comes up all staticy and all the blocks looking the same kind. also there is only movement forward, with either "w" or "e", and steering/turning only with the mouse/pointing device.
why not cursor keys for turn left, right, move forward and back up? why not page up to climb the level of one block? why does a passage have to be TWO blocks high to enter/continue moving in that direction, but only needs to be one block wide? not having played minecraft, being too cheep myself to purchase it, are the silver and gold "eggs" what we are "mining" for? do they/will they serve some other future function?
i find it fun just like it is, to tunnel, bridge, and explore, but i'm guessing you have something more for the future in mind.

Getting 120 fps now? LAAAAAG OMG LAAAAAAGGGGG!!!!! -Face plants- Oh and nice work! Next thing you need to make that Minecraft dosen't have but Doom has is the character of his face in the centre of the screen just to top it off of the pixal madness. So when you swing and swing a sword give him the good ol angery hell die die die face.
