So, I've been playing with the idea of changing Reed's ear stripes a bit to give him a slightly less basic appearance (which would make him more distinct, as well as make drawing generic igwulf easier).
This is the design I'm currently thinking of changing it too. As a positive, it still looks like a stripe, leaving Reed as a prime example of what an igwulf should look like, but it also shows some complexity. Also, reflecting his scent and flavour, it's designed after a clove bud .
I'm still not sure if I'm going to go through with any change. It's a neat design, but it is, unquestionably, different. Some I've consulted have suggested that Reed, being the original igwulf, is special enough, and should remain the visual example of the baseline of igwulfness as such. Some have said that since I've changed dramatically over the years, Reed should get some change too to reflect myself. Some just worry that igwulf stripes will start to be like cutie-marks if they reflect personality instead of simply being aesthetic. XP
I'll probably play with it a bit more, see if I like how it looks in various pictures and poses. Even if I decide against it, I've grown fond of the design, so I happily post it here as a glimpse of either its origin or what could have been. :3

I tried to make it unobtrusively shaped like something, so it's not something that one looks at and says "well, it's obviously supposed to be (blank), and that makes it look less like a proper stripe or marking."
Like, I wonder if anyone would have even known, had I simply posted this without mentioning its root in the description. :\
In other words, I definitely see your point, and I thought I sort of worked around it.

I didn't not mean to imply that yours was obviously shaped, indeed. I would not have known what it was had you not said so. You did good on that, but I'm not so sure other people would be quite so subtle in the matter. Then again, I suppose it's their choice. I still say it'd be quite silly to see a heart design or something on their ears though.
I just think your design should reflect who you are. <=3 Whether that means your character should stay the same, or if he should change as you change, or as you refine who you are. If that doesn't sound overly deep. Ultimately it's your decision, is what I mean to say. ^..^
