This is Zeus, a jaguar resident of Panther Ridge Wildlife Sanctuary in Florida.
Jaguars have the reputation of being rather difficult to work with, especially if you weren’t the one to raise them, but Zeus seems to be the dramatic exception to the rule. He was quite good-natured, to an amazing degree.
Zeus was every bit of 300lbs (136kg) and was quite muscled and well-built, like his kind are known for. All in all, he is one of the finest examples of his kind that I’ve ever seen.
One of the fun things about Zeus was the always “scheming” expression on his face. You could just tell that all those little synapses were firing, and keeping him completely in tune with everything that was going on around him. I think this pic is a great example of that.
“Let me see... pi times ‘r’ squared equals... a forward velocity of 1-meter-per-second, on a relative bearing of 172-degrees, and I’d land right on his head! The camera is MINE!”
So this is the big kitty Zeus, who was just wonderful to get to meet.
This picture was taken 24-Jun-07. The image was taken with a Canon EOS 10D and the EF 28-200mm f/3.5-5.6 USM lens. The original was taken at full frame of 3072x2048x24b, ISO eqv 400, 1/90 shutter, f/5.6. This image was shrunken down for space conservation.

(Shasta smiles deviantly) It's all in the perspective. Personally, I wouldn't mind, as I've been-there-done-that with quite a few kitties in my life. On the other paw (aka "reality check"), with big cats, there's a fine dividing line between "play" and "not play", mostly cuz humans are kinda fragile by compare, and something that's "fun" for them might be downright scary for the human.
But hey! I'd still have fun trying to keep the camera away from him (for all the good it'd do). It's all interaction, right? :)
