I have like, an actual kind of personality in mind when I play him in Skyrim. He is a klepto, has a sense of entitlement and self-righteousness, all while also having no real set of morals as far as who he betrays. But he is also cautious, and doesn't like confrontation except with those he sees as 'weak'. For everyone else, he tries to be on his best behavior, saying what you want him to say.

Since learning he was Dragonborn, he wants to learn all of the Shouts, just to have that power, and is also otherwise power-hungry, though again, it's something he pretends he is not, unless it is more beneficial not to lie about it.
