"Oh Zylphia. How long have you been awake? I was calling your name earlier, but you were so cute sleeping I didn't want to wake you." Drial's voice was nice to listen to, it sort of calmed me in a way, I just layed back in his arms and watched the building pass by, "If you haven't guessed already we've reached Head Quaters, it's a very nice building which surprises me since the Boss is usually very cheap about things."
I continued to look about, dim incandescent bulbs scattered about the walls.
"Zylphia would you like to walk?" Nadien asked and looked over at me.
"Im fine, I don't mind being carried, I'm kind of tired anyways."
"I don't mind carrying him either!" Drial sounded much to excited to be carrying a heavy load.
"Well you're probably tired because you haven't been moving all day. Come on, put him down Drial. Besides, what would the boss think if you walked in carrying him?" Nadien seemed to have a good point.
"All right I'll put him down..." It was just then I realized where Drial's hand had been. Drial put me down gently, his hands crossing my body, made me shiver a bit.
"Thanks Drial." I stretched and yawned, a soft high sound coming out of my mouth, "So I'm going to meet this "Boss" right?" I looked at Nadien.
"That's what we're hoping for, Boss sort of does whatever Boss wants to do rather than what she should do, it can get... tiresome on the occasion we actually need to do something important. Her sense of importance is a bit skewed, but she always manages to get everything done effectively." Nadien had quite a bit of confidence in this "Boss" of hers.
"Not only effectively, but efficiently too!" Drial chimed in sounding rather chipper, he was kind of annoying in a way, but his charm drown it out, "She's a great lady, and good looking too, not as cute as I would like, but if the option were there..."
"Enough you perv!" Nadien cut him off by snapping at him, I looked at Drial and he wasn't phased, he was giggling.
"So... showing up in this thing is... okay?"
"Probably not, but we finished our mission. You were our mission really, and we're reporting in, so it shouldn't be a problem. It was very lucky you had woken up when you did, moving you would have been more difficult in your other condition." Nadien sounded a lo more serious than she did in the hospital, she sounded important.
Drial was whistling now, a rhythmless tune, swinging his arms and legs as he walked. He seemed like a very easy-going fellow, careless would be a good way to put it too. We walked through the hall, it was a pretty long hallway too, with the odd door thrown in here and there. This must have been a huge building, expensive too. We stopped, turned to one of the doors opened it and there were stairs.
"I'd get lost in this building easily, it's like a labyrinth..." I tried to keep track of the doors and lights, but they were all evenly spaced and identical.
"That's because it is pretty much a labyrinth, that's probably why the Boss was willing to spend so much on it..." Drial said, then he muttered something else, "the cheap ass..."
We continued and opened another door, and walked a hallway, it was all pretty boring to be honest... my hopes of interesting things were dashed. Then I feel behind Drial and we stopped, I wasn't paying much attention and ended up bumping into his back. He didn't move at all then looked at me.
"We're here kitty cat." He looked out of character, more serious. I was staring at his profile when he turned away.
"Don't worry, the Boss kind of frightens him."
"Shut up woman." Drial said quickly. Nadien laughed at him and then opened the door.
"Hey Boss, we're back."
"And?" said a gracious voice from behind a desk, "Did you... get any results?"
Drial stepped up holding my hand, I was still behind him, "We did a bit better than finding you results."
"That's nice Drial, but I don't really care, Yes, or No?"
"Yes" said Nadien.
"Great! Then we'll have to celebrate in some way."
I yawned behind Drial, the soft high pitched noise as usual.
"What the hell was that?" said the Boss, "Don't tell me..."
"We br-"
"I said don't tell me damn it, I want to guess. You brought that kid along, right?" Boss sounded kind of annoyed, and Drial held my hand tighter.
"Yes..." said Drial like a kid who just got yelled at by a principal.
"Damn I'm Good!" Boss exclaimed, "Well? Where is the kid? Come on, let me see!" she sounded overly excited to meet me.
Drial tugged my arm and I stepped out from behind him and looked up at the Boss. She was... human, she had blue eyes and bright red hair, must have been dyed, it was short, boyish and she kind of looked like a boy too. She looked very young and wore armor. The armor was nicely polished and had pointed edges at every connection. She looked like a walking weapon really.
"Huh, you're really cute, like a pet." she hopped onto her desk, clicked her boots across it and then hopped off. She walked up to me and stared me in the eye, "What colour are your eyes, they look pretty dark, almost black."
At closer examination the Boss looked to have green eyes now, and very white skin. A couple pimples too, so I guess she was pretty young.
"Do you speak Clorea?" she then poked my forehead with one of her leather gloves and continued to tap, "Come on, speak up, speak."
"They're dark brown." I swatted her hand away and stared at her square in the eye. Drial stiffened and I looked at him he was looking back slightly concerned.
"Oh that's what I though, well I like you, not many people around here would have slapped my hand away like that. Isn't that right Drial?" she looked at him menacingly and laughed.
She grabbed my other hand and walked me to her desk and sat with me in her chair, it was a ridiculous thing, the back went up a couple meters and was intricately detailed with all sorts of floral designs, but they were very handsome flowers mind you.
"So what brings you to our fair city?" she said it in the most sarcastic way possible.
"I'm not actually sure, I woke up, talked to Nadien, got molested by a doctor, then Drial came along and then all sorts of random things happened, now I'm sitting with you in a huge ridiculously extravagant chair." I said it all very fast and the Boss was sort of looking at me with a "uh-huh" look.
"Well you're in the best of hands now. The hospital would have cut you up, and looked at how you worked and why you showed so much activity although you had no reactions to the outside world. It fascinated me so I had these two here monitoring you from the time you appeared. Now here you are a regular average kid. I'm slightly disappointed, but Nadien tells me you can figure out things easily, almost instantly on your own." She looked at me intrigued, "Is that true?"
"I'm not exactly sure." I looked over at Nadien and Drial, they were talking to each other, occasionally glancing over to me and the Boss, Drial waved. I waved back.
"I see... Well we'll have to get you sure." she handed me some kind of ball with a floating speck in the middle, "What is this?"
I took it from her, "It's a resonance containment chamber, see the black circle on the bottom?" she nodded, "That emits a certain sound wave and the vibrations hold the speck in place."
"Huh." she grabbed it back from me, "That was impressive, what if we broke it open?"
"Not sure, I think I have to touch things to know how they work, it's like a... uh... connection." I nodded as I looked to her, "Don't do it though, you don't know what will happen."
She put it down gingerly and looked at me, "You're fascinating, truly remarkable." she looked over at Drial and Nadien.
"Do you think you could build something like this?"
I shook my head.
"Why not?"
I shrugged, "But I have the theory down, if you have the resources I could maybe tell the engineers how I think it might be built."
"Good enough for me." she handed me the ball again, "Go outside and break this thing open, far away from here mind you."
"Okay..."
"Oi! Nadien, Drial, take our guest here to a facility somewhere."
Nadien and Drial nodded and I got up, walking toward them. I looked back at the Boss, then continued on. Then I turned back again, "Ummm, could I get some clothes please?"
"Oh yes of course, wear whatever you can find in the public closet." she waved her hand dismissively.
Me, Nadien and Drial walked out of the office. "That was... interesting." my hopes hadn't bee completely destroyed, the Boss seemed like a character. I thought I might like it here, if I get to stay here. We went back through the mess of doors, halls, and stairs to another mess of halls, stairs and doors. Behind one of which was a huge room filled with all sorts of clothes, "This is great."
"Well pick something out, you were sent on your first mission apparently." Nadien said this sort of confused.
"I haven't seen her respond to somebody like that before, it was kind of... weird." Drial said this and shivered at what I imagine to be a thought of the Boss.
"Oh well. Go on, grab some clothes..."
I had already gone into the room and was pulling stockings off hooks, a pair of white and black striped stockings with bows at the top. Then I found a light green dress shirt with a stiff collar and cuffs, after I put on a silver skirt, with a green frilled and floral embroidered pattern skirt, thin black tulled skirt went over that. The top layers were the green shirt and a black laced shirt over it.
"That's really... girly." Nadien looked me over a few times.
"I like it." an expected response from Drial.
"Thank you." I smiled and walked out of the room, "Let's go you guys, I'm supposed to break something, or take something apart, I love both of those things."
I noticed my demeanor had changed, I wasn't really sad at all anymore, I was kind of excited to go out into the city.
"Well all right, we'll leave soon, we should probably get prepared first though." Nadien walked out the door and down the hall, I followed her, and Drial was last, Nadien looked at me now and then.
I continued to look about, dim incandescent bulbs scattered about the walls.
"Zylphia would you like to walk?" Nadien asked and looked over at me.
