My entry for the second round of a contest over on dA! We were each assigned a country and had to draw a picture that somehow related to it. I was assigned Kazakhstan, and I chose one to illustrate a myth concerning the creation of some of the rock formations at Borovoe national park. It's kind of short so I'll copy and paste it here :
"Once upon а time there lived а white, beautiful camel which used to change its shape whenever an enemy came near, flу upon the mountain and warn the people with loud roars. In this way, it protected the population fгоm danger.
Оnе day, however, the саmel on its way to the waterside in order to drink, met the hunter Kasym Khan, who only considered the fine animal game and shot an arrow at it. Тhе wounded animal started to roar and sank on its knee, while still trying to reach the watering place, but the merciless hunter kept shooting arrows at it and mortally injured it. Тhе camel never reached the waterside, died оп the spot and turned into а stone hill, hence dubbed bura - or camel. " (That came from here ----> [link])
I was really struggling with this (hence why its only going up now). I knew I wanted to illustrate a myth or legend, but I couldn't find one that I like. I came across this one while looking up native species of Kazakhstan, and this image popped into my head. I changed a few things from the story (to make it a bit more dramatic and to avoid putting too much strain on my drawing ability X'D), but I think it still turned out OK.
I've never drawn a camel before, so I know there are a ton of anatomical errors. If you know anything about camel anatomy, feel free to critique this so I'll know for the future :3 The camel was also leaning a lot more in my original sketch, but the lean was somehow diminished during the inking process. I was originally going to make the background much more realistic, but after seeing how surreal (and strangely spooky) the camel turned out I decided not to.
Enjoy!
