Kessie is a female American Kestrel (a small species of falcon). She was hit by a car and her wing badly broken, but by the time she was found, brought to a hospital, and seen by a vet, her wing had already begun to heal. Since birds have relatively weak immune systems, it probably would have killed her to try and re-break and set the wing, so it was left improperly set and she became a member of the WSU Raptor Club in the summer of 2000.

A sketch I did of Kessie today while weathering her. There are some issues with proportions and angles, but in my defense it's difficult to draw a moving target. Anywho, considering that I never cleaned it up or anything, I'm relatively happy with how it turned out.
(And yes, that is her injured wing, hence why it looks a little funny.)
