finally got the pictures from Halloween onto my computer, haven't got them all sorted, but here's a pumpkin carving picture to start out.
these are all based on characters from the movie Howl's moving castle. I'll post a better picture later, and of them lit up

the pumpkin I used for Sophie had a very thick hard outside layer like a gourd, it was apparently a cross breed between a lumpy gourd and a pumpkin, so it looked like a pumpkin but it had lumps on it. and also an outer skin about a quarter inch thick with the texture of very hard wood. we used the dremel tool for that, with a wood carving bit. we also used it to make starter holes on some of the others just cause we had it and it was faster than the knife.
the other two are supposed to be Sophie when she's really old, and Howl, laughing. Howl was Aubyn's, the sketch I drew her of Howl looked ok but it didn't translate well to the pumpkin, but she had a great time carving him and she was very happy with it and thought it looked just like what she had wanted it to be,
the lumpy pumpkin was just hard to carve, so I couldn't get the degree of detail I needed to get Sophie looking as she should. but we all had a great time. Angie designed and carved turnip head [she later made a top hat and a pipe for him] and Roy carved Calcifer, from my drawing.
definitely a blast, a halloween which will be remembered as one of the best ever.
*hugs*
