Because they're simple, without all the details that mess you up, and escape the uncanny valley by being at the peak on the valley's left side, with just enough human traits that they're positively adorable.
Also, good work, nice detail on both the background, and the pony's face.

I just don't feel comfortable if it was something MLP.

You can find them easy, just type those names into dA, and you'll see some pics of them. They're used to great effect in a Fanfic called On a Cross and Arrow, where the mane 6 are teleported to an alternate reality by Twilight, where everything is the same, but everyone is the opposite gender. Also, Princess Celestia is Prince Solaris...and in most pics of him, he has Command Riker's(Star Trek: TNG) beard....that is hot.
