Well think of it this way. Imagine you made a message against child abuse and someone made a joke about how they enjoy beating or molesting their children. Would you find it funny? Probably not.
Even if you didn't mean any harm, a joke about how much you enjoy harming an animal is probably not going to be taken as amusing by someone who takes violence towards animals seriously.

I'm in Canada so we had Thanksgiving last month. I made a nice vegan dinner for the whole household (my vegan daughter, my non-vegan parents, and me). We had stuffed pepper boats, Brussels sprouts with roasted garlic, green beans with tangy citrus sauce, and garlic mashed potatoes. And for dessert: banana chocolate chip pudding bread!
