Styles are something you use to get across a theme, a style. It's mutable, and you change depending on what the project demands, but the undercurrent will always have something of you in it.

I mean, the drawing is alright, but it's... shallow and meaningless. It doesn't have any life, it doesn't have any form. It is just: picture of crocodile, done in conservative way.

You don't need to make your style more modern. You can, if you wanted to, choose to draw in a more contemporary style (for particular things), but don't replace your personal way of doing things wholesale with something new.

Yeah don't worry, I kinda decided that this is was a brief laps in judgement based around someone who worked in the industry saying my work has no modern appeal......drawing this was actually very labored and.....not for me.

On reflection I......prefer my old style

Kind ironic that my work looks like it's about 20 years old, even in an attempt to update it still looks 10 years too old.
