Contest items? I'm not even really aware of the contest. I'd guess flowers, maybe the umbrella and maybe the color pink count... or maybe girls count. Anyways, I fail at that, so how about I make up for it!
I think what made this one special enough to inspire an old-school comment was definitely her eyes. Simple and sweet. I looked at them a second time and realized the eye lashes on her left eye were up high up and the ones for her right were more to the side. Even if that's probably how it would look, the way the left eyelashes stand out on top would definitely show up on the right eye as well, rather than blend in with the black blur of lashes we all use. (: But I don't care, it was my favorite thing.
Aside from that, I do like the simple, blonde hair. Goes well with the flowers, and light lines for detail were a perfect choice. And pink! Not only a bit in the hair, but... I can't tell. Does she have a pink bunny belly or are those some pubic-belly hairs? Nicely trimmed if so, I thought it was a cute add. Matches the fluff on the other side! ;3
Well, while on the matter of fluff, the bend in the right ear, the usual cute flop (was that a contest characteristic?), accidentally made the right ear look longer than the straight up left ear. I think the fluff would be all the way inside the tip of the umbrella if so.
And... blah, I don't like too many critiques, but it seems like the six wires in the umbrella don't center at the unseen top like it should. Just above her left hand you can see what looks like the center where the wires meet. Maybe some umbrellas look like that, but not any I've seen.
But it's okay! Cause you won with the anatomy. I love her soft face, cheeks a bit chubby so it's all round and smooth. I thought the arms looked short, but they're proportional, so I guess it's just how it can be seen. So it seems ya got your anatomy down well. ;3 I think it might have been the slight chubbiness that played the trick, who knows.
Were fallen straps, like on her bra, a contest thing? That's my last guess. :P I think she looks great, I'm glad you entered a contest, whether or not ya win (Of course I hope ya do.) I know FA isn't the place to get good critiques, and I don't want anyone to yell at me for "tearing your work apart" so I think I'll stop here. ;P Hopefully this helps! Cute job. ;D

well, in Pokemon Ruby/Saphire, they introduced the concept of contests, each pokemon attack has a 'hidden' type, for instance, 'Charm' attack is Cute type, Flamethrower is 'beauty' type, Submission attack is 'Tough' type, Leer is 'cool' type and so on, five categories, and the contests are about performing said attacks to judges in order to earn points and finnaly win a little ribbon for your pokemon to show it off, gimmicky, but some people got really into it
in P/D, the contests returned, but now you have a chance to actually dress up your pokemon with items, over 100 items, most times you have to create themes and make them pleasant to earn more points, then with the touchpad you have to play a little DDR-like dancing competition, -THEN- you get to perform the attacks, so in a nutshell, those are the pokemon contests
on to bussines, yeah, the first thing I worked even before completing the lineart was the eyes, and I applied some of the old style eye shading and a few new techniques, in my opinion I still think my older one was a little more apealing, but I like how the new style is far more clean
hmmm, eyelashes eh? took me a while to get them to look right, at times they looked too plain and others they looked too Clamp-ish (read, huge bushes of doom larger than the actual eyes) I guess in the end I ended up working them individually to make sure I liked each, hence the diference since I never did made sure they matched and I moved on XD

should explain a lot, this pokemon has a lower patch of fluff down there, I just trimmed away the hips
the hair, oh gods the hair X3 we spent a while deciding, mostly since her sister has natural red hair, but well, ultimately blonde with pink was the way to go :3
right, the Umbrella, I could not find an umbrella reference online with that angle anywhere, and being at the office I did not had any handy reference @.@
thankee :3 tried my best to give her a youthful expression and anatomy, and the young 'ns sometimes do have that cute subtle chubiness, glad to hear I captured it correctly :3333
oh no, the fallen straps where just a random thing, it was going to be strapless but I decided that drawing them hanging would add a disctint unique touch
eh, don't worry, -I- like the critiques and I grow a lot from them, so feel free to keep at it, I will be submitting 5 pictures to this contest, one per day, so there's still 4 to go >:3 ooh, should be submitting the second one right now actually~!
