Northbound and about to cross the former Minnesota Western, then CNW, on a grey overcast day in April 1993.. All this trackage is still in use today.
#4100 has had quite a lifespan, having started in 1955 as PRR #7039; a GP9, then PennCentral and then Conrail. After rebuilding by Generation II it became SOO #4100 as a GP15C and later as RRVW #4100.
The Soo's seven GP15Cs, numbers 4100-4106 were built by Generation II Locomotives* using 1,500 horespower CAT 3512 prime movers atop GP9 frames. All featured ZTR computer controls and were delivered in the winter of 1990-1991.
*Ziegler Inc., is a Midwest Caterpillar dealer (20 locations, MN, IA & WI) who established Generation II Locomotives. Ziegler's locomotive facilities are located on the former MN&S 'Highline' in Bloomington, MN.
With Caterpillar's acquisition of Electro-Motive Diesel, Inc. (EMD) I suspect that Ziegler will move these operations to Illinois.
Scanned Kodak Gold 200 negative.

why oh why did they have to go to red. i know it simplified from the red and white, but the green on that chip-gon, or whatever it is (grain hoppers maybe?) behind it is so much prettier of a color.
didn't know about cat buying emd. the world keeps changing and changing. my old suffern pathetic now wears the yellow onion that gobbled it up too. (i rather like the scheme they did for that one wobbly -p commemorative unit though. sorry for ranting about my personal taste mostly unrelated)
