More practicing from refs, this time done a bit differently. Also slightly different subject matter. As always, when breaking into new territory I like to go with a fox simply because I'm familiar with their fur pattern and general anatomy and it allows me to focus on the new things I'm trying instead of fussing with the species and facial structure. In this case, it's the feral side of things that I'm not so used to.
So, on the painting side of things it looks like I've got two options. Really watered down paint makes the paper get all blotchy and ugly and just doesn't look good. So, I can either use thicker paint that doesn't mess up the paper, it handles less watery paint just fine. Or, I can suck it up and start using real watercolour paper like an actual artist. I haven't really decided which route to take at this point. x3
For now, a fox-based doodle, using this as a rather loose guide. Credit for the picture and all that jazz, etc, etc.

That wouldn't work very well with the paper I use right now, it would simply tear in half. I am toying with the idea of experimenting with actual watercolour paper again, though. We'll see how it goes. :P
And thanks! Whenever I do something like this, I like to stick to my style as much as possible despite more or elss copying reality as well. A lot of people might tone down the outlines in a 'realism' picture, but I make 'em thick and bold. x3 All the pen work I do is a large part of my look, so I figured I'd stick with it!

I love it. The only thing better than a fox, is a fox out in snow looking for a good meal. Seeing this really makes me want to see you make a drawing of a fox snowdiving. I have a drawing you could use for a ref. I have it as my desktop right now. Has a lot of personality I feel. Here: http://janefox.deviantart.com/art/M.....rock-268587979
Keep it up! Was feeling a bit done with DA, then saw this and now I'm very eager to see what other studies you post up.
