Some aquarelle and ink studies I did in preparation for  balorkin's commission - inluding the preliminary thumbnail sketch which will be the basis for the final image.
The subjects are a Boulonnais and Friesian, respectively.
Studies 1 - 4 are from The Ultimate Encyclopedia of Horse Breeds & Horse Care by Judith Draper, 5 is from an ad in Horse Illustrated, and 6 is freehand.
1 is a colored pencil sketch, and the rest are aquarelle, pigment ink, and colored pencils on cardstock.
