Glasses rule out reality shift.
And 'group wasn't sure how it happened' rules out memory rewrite too.
The plant growth and shoddy state suggest somewhere abandoned.
Teleported together and transformed for a martial arts tournament for some being's or beings' amusement?
Transformed and are being sublimely brainwashed to be the generals of one of the fighting types legendaries? (Or the winner will be. The rest become statues for decoration or are brainwashed to be subservient to the winner.)
One of the fighting type legendaries comes come to their capital city, finds it in ruins, and choses these eight semi-random and pairs them up to repopulate his city?

Tournament, while barbaric, is possible.
Brainwashing is right out as I have an AR one in the works involving that. Statues are also right out, sorry.
Re-population is a very distinct possibility.
Still, probably the Musketeer legendaries are probably involved, whatever it is.
None of them seem to be the perfect explanation, though here and there there are a few good elements. Still the fact the artist named the pic "The Combat Team", gives me a few ideas too...
