The Ragtime Dance by Scott Joplin

Scott Joplin is the only ragtime composer of his many contemporaries whose music has survived - because he was the only one who could write down his music on paper! The Ragtime Dance is one of his few pieces of music that has lyrics.
In December of 1986 I was the keyboardist in the rock band The Bogartz. We all lived in a house at 1245 Jefferson Street in Los Angeles. Around Christmas time, all the other band members went home to visit their families...and I was left alone with all the musical equipment! This week of recording was the first time I got to use a Porta-1 machine. I really put both this song and the synthesizer through the paces in this version while trying to capture the carnival-like atmosphere of the many parts of this piece.
Realized on Yamaha DX-100 synthesizer, drum machine, effects boxes, and Tascam Porta-1 4-track tape recorder. Best listened to with headphones.
