No color. This was just meant to be a greyscale drawing. I tend to do a lot of those these days since most of my "regular" work is done in greyscale.

Out of curiosity, had Onika arrived and Treska was some how left behind on their own world? how would that effect each one? I believe you said before there's a strong bond between the two species.

Yeah, Onika arrived in the Caterwaul world, but her passage to the world was destroyed so Treska had to find another way to get there. While only a short bit of time passed in Treska's reality, nearly a week passed in Onika's new reality. Treska was still able to sense Onika, but due to the difference in realities, it was rather faint.

Is this before or after she's had her first wake-up coffee of the morning...?

Jim, might I impose and ask for a blow-up on the bottom-left 1/3rd? I'm specifically interested to see how you made the shading / highlight of her neck-frills. (Being a hack colourist, sometimes, I'm still hoping to absorb more ideas... since I basically suck at it, really.)

...and I am. What I mean is, I'd love to see that 'neck frill' specifically, blown up to this same size, to see your technique. As if I were actually holding it and lifted it closer to my face.

I know it's an odd request, I apologize for that. But it always fascinated me to see how an artist accomplishes the effects they do. Colouring something (even B&W) is one thing... but making highlights and shadows and graduations happen is a skill I don;t think I inherently have knowledge about. So, I try to learn as I can.

Do you rub those pencils with your thumb to get those smooth tones? And those spines look a lot like the leaves of certain plants out here.

My thought exactly! They somewhat resemble my yucca's leaves!

I use blending stumps. They're available in various sizes at most art and hobby stores.

The spines look a little like those leaves from the top side, but the underside has a pronounced ridge than runs the full length of the center of the spine. I'll probably post some anatomy sketches later this month.

Treska. She could eviscerate someone in the blink of an eye. Des would take a little longer, since she would probably want to put on a rain suit or something.

I'd be curious to see Treska and Des trying to intimidate each other, and how Des's reaction would be, how fast would she back down/lose face with her co workers. Hmm how about intimidation porn shoot, Treska and the 3 sisters, and how uncomfortable the girls would be around Treska.

I'd think Des would probably try to hold her own, since she knows Treska's not going to hurt her. Granted, Treska could simply pick her up with one arm and toss her into the pool, but that's just one of those risks, I reckon.
