Back when, the first images of the robot designs for the Transformers live-action movie appeared, and a lot of people went "WTF is that crap!?" , myself included.
Not long ago, the first images of the Teen Titans-esque robot designs for Cartoon Network's "Transformers: Animated" series appeared, and a lot of people went "WTF is that crap!?", myself included.
My opinions have softened somewhat since then, and one day I thought, "Why not combine the two?". In any case, it was fun to draw.

Nah, McDonald's is grilled grease no matter how much you eat with how much running you do. Besides, McDonald's is only the biggest because the kids want to go there, before they actually care about what they eat. Adults would rather would have an Arby's or something like that instead.
...You know, it's rather arrogant to presume that you are the authority on what is "right" and "wrong". You can say that you disagree with the majority of the public, but to say they're "wrong", especially with something as subjective as whether or not a movie was worth seeing, well, that's pretty much in a class of its own.
Well, that's true, but when it comes to something as entirely subjective as entertainment, I just think it's a bit silly to start throwing around words like "right, wrong, and best". McDonalds makes food, which can be analyzed qualitatively for something like nutrition, but the -taste-, whether it's -enjoyable- or not, is really up to the individual, so you can't really say if it tastes like "the best" or not.

incredible work, EWS! I love how you've merged the two styles together- I can definately see the TF's being very animated in this style(something along the lines of the animation you'd see in the old Tiny Toon cartoons XD). I'm curious as to how the other TF's would look... but I definately like how Bee looks for sure : D!
It makes me think along the lines of a movie inspired animated series that sort of restylizes things along the X Men Evolution ways. Only you give Bumblebee a lot more personality here.
I bet you were chewing at your fingernails to see the '77 Camaro that was Bumblebee in the movie up for sale.
BAH! She called it a high rise intake with a four barrel double pumper... those were sidedraft webbers on an intake right out of the Mooneyes catalogue (You can also see the Mooneyes logo on the dash, and a few other choice Moon parts such as the rear wheels)
Come on, admit it it, you'd love to own that car.

I see and understand it very well... Same here when i seen the first doodles about "Shin Seiki Evangelion" mechanical designs, i sayd "WTF ?! Isn't this a Gundam, oO ?", and indeed Sadamoto (the designer) sayd the same too: "I should have to draw them a little different because seem too much a Gundam"... As the first models of the Gundam Itself, seemed too boxy and MUCH MORE different than the actual one... The first impression is ALWAYS "WTF ?! Etc...", but then after many modifies, the final result is always "WHOA, THAT'S GREAT :D:D:D !!!"... And i don't think those are crappy ^^
agreed. Im a fan of both the old and new. Movie included. People had some interesting ideas as to what the movie should look like and be about. Can't please everyone. From a design view, and a technical CG effects side, the movie really raised the bar. The new animated series looks really interesting as well.
I remember my first impression.
Some of them seemed to lack pieces of their "body armor".
my first thought was that they remind me of another "pile of metal" I know:

It had some flaws big enough to drive trucks through, and I didn't care for the jittery frantic camera work in some spots, but overall I enjoyed it. It does a good job of being a proper mindless action-and-effects summer blockbuster, with some fun comedy and personality thrown in. That's the part that won me over, as I'm not a big afficionado of "things blow up" movies. Scenes like giant robots sneaking around a backyard and stuff that shows what is ultimately a silly concept not taking itself too seriously. That's what makes me believe they have managed to latch on to the 'spirit' of Transformers, regardless of whether or not Starscream looks like the offspring of a gorilla and a box kite. :)
I saw it 2 weeks ago and liked it. Most complaints I've heard where about the jittery camera overuse but the one that got me was Megatron not getting any screen time until near the end of the film. I guess it works for the plot but hes the head bad guy, right? I've only watched Transformers from time to time so any 'mistakes' went right past me. Very fun flick.
Frankly, after Beast Wars, Beast Machines, RiD, Armada, Energon, Cybertron, the UK comics, the Marvel comics, the Dreamwave comics, the GI Joe Crossovers, and IDW comics, I've been exposed to so many versions of the Transformers, that one more new version doesn't even begin to phase me anymore.
looks awesomely toon-ish.
Yeah, looking at the new cartoon series I cant help but think "WTF is that crap!?" as well. They're only trying to make the TFs more appealing to the new generation is all. Even though I thought the movie was actually pretty good, this series looks a little repulsive. :O The only thing that would make it worth watching would be if Cullen played prime. Even then, I'd only be listening to the show xD

The way you did Bee's face... I keep expecting it to rotate and flip his chin up to replace one of his eyes.
AND WE'D NEVER KNOW THE DIFFERENCE.
And, as an aside... The so-called freaky-lookin' robots for the new Animated series? The toys look EXACTLY like that. Matte paint and bizarre proportions and all.
According to the Botcon panel, the animation team and the toy design team went in lock-step during the evolution of the designs, so the two match exactly.
