Makes me think of the graphic novel called Maus.

Very interesting. This is the first time I have heard of xylography. It certainly sounds more sophisticated than "wood-engraving." ^^;

But one thing I really find fascinating with this kind of art in general is using the splintering of wood to symbolize light. Never gave much thought about light other than making art more complicated from all the shading.
