Only son of Danny and Moira, grandson of Justin. Independent and thirsty for knowledge, Rannan admired his grandfather (once known as a great explorer and field journalist) and tried very hard to be like him. Justin and Moira encouraged his behavior, and Justin gave him his gryphon, Squall (as an egg) and encouraged him to keep a journal of what he learned. Rannan jumped at the opportunity, and as he got older traveled farther and farther from home to learn about the world around him. His father disapproved of Rannan shirking his chores to explore, and it caused many arguments between the two.
