"Just try me", Elisa glares at Jezebella, the evil clone of Angela who was trying to get away with her stolen goods from the detective, leading her in a rooftop chase and battle. The gargoyle apparently underestimated the cop...
I went a bit kooky with the background and stuff. I also have several markers who declared they wouldn't be able to comply in the matter of getting this piece done. I'll hold a funeral for dead markers later.
By the way if you're interested, I recorded the stream during which I did this. It's got lots of talking, art tips, questions answered, display of really old art, and other goofiness on a classical/movie soundtrack because that's what music I had available, so go check it out if you've got time to spend on such things.

Thanks so much! Gargoyles is indeed a huge influence on my art style, and I've learned a lot from watching the show and drawing its characters. As for the marker textures, thanks a ton! I was doing a lot of blending and layering and smoothing between colours as I had to use different markers than the ones I originally wanted to use when my usuals were giving up the ghost!
Full disclaimer on backgrounds: when I was a teenager, I used to work for my dad's residential architecture company, and my job was to draw the houses in perspective view for the contractors' sales pamphlets and model homes. My dad taught me everything I know about perspective and a lot about buildings. It's now over 20 years later and 15 of those spent as a pro artist in animation, illustration and comics, so I got lots of on-the-job education from background designing friends who taught me about scene composition and practice, especially in storyboards, where I learned about staging and background composition, to handle things like backgrounds on illustrations like this.
tl; dr: I've been at this for a long time, practice makes perfect. :D

You ever try using the markers as just base for colored leds before? And yeah I can see how you would have such great skills with them with a background like that I just picked it up as a kid due to spending so much time alone. Though backgrounds are always tricky for me so hehe yeah I`ll state again I`m rather jealous lol Yeah I kinda just over time plopped myself in the character sketch artist as a excuse to bypass the background business heh.
Don't fall into the trap so many people fall into! I was the same, used to hate backgrounds, but I challenged myself. Figured I had to learn eventually and I did have that step up due to my knowledge of perspective.
I sometimes use colouring pencils on top of markers, but it's mostly just as highlight or accent tones. I figure I've got enough colours that I can make the drawing entirely in ink and marker.
Back to backgrounds, here's a challenge for you: get yourself a sketchbook and carry it around with you, and sketch the environments you see. Doesn't have to be perfect, just gain an idea of composition and perspective. See if you can fill the sketchbook in a couple of months. Practice makes perfect!

Ah it was more of a personal choice then anything else as my arts running on a limited timer so to speak. Ive tried to go around and sketch the landscape of st.johns but what time and ability I have had left for my art this past while was mostly put into the project pictures I had offered people. Though you are right as that does help a lot to do just for the practice as well as the usable references. Just I`d like to keep drawing what I enjoy with art while I still can. Only time I really did enjoy drawing a background was while doing a odd project with a friend that oddly enough is kinda like your suggestion just use your hand instead of paper and you have to see how well you can get the picture to fit what your looking at when you hold your hand up. But I think that was more for the odd project than for what we were drawing. Hehehe no worries some sayings out there are always worth saying twice.
