Latin - Geococcyx Californianus - The greater California Roadrunner, ironically the state bird of New Mexico. They're everywhere out here, and absolutely beautiful birds. This one is a great specimen of a male. He's eating raw hamburger, they got nuts for it. Photo copyright Me. Taken with a Pentax *ist DL and a Pentax 80-320 320MM lens.

Yeah... The cartoon roadrunner is rather absurd. And real roadrunners are carnivorous, they don't eat bird seed as warner brothers would have you believe.

Yup, they nom lizards and snakes and sometimes insects. I've seen them eating centipedes and Children of the Earth (scary little motherfuckers) as well as grasshoppers and crickets. But they sure to love to nom the hamburger I put out for them.

strange xD is this the biggest roadrunner there is?i know they cant be as big as the warner bros roadrunner

They are the largest in the Americas, but not the world. I have heard there is a species known as Carpococcyx that grows to two feet in length and is found in asia somewhere. (although to be fair, I've seen plenty of roadrunners here that size.)

Also, children of the earth is just what we call them here. They are technically known as Jerusalem crickets, or potato bugs in California.

i think we have something like that here in Georgia to. the cricket that is. not sure what their called or how big they are. maybe the size of a cow ant

Cow ant? Mutilidae? we call those Velvet ants here. Jerusalem crickets are much larger than the ones I've seen

ive uploaded it to my galary if you wanna take a look.i typed in cow ant and it did show up on google then i took a look at the photo i took and it looks the same
