I had this idea of taking a bunch of my old massletters and publishing them as "Best of the Karno Letters", or some such. A hybrid between autobiographical comics and those letter collections that academics like.
But I never really got around to it. So maybe if I publish 'em in chapters, like my Minicomics? Would anyone buy those? In an effort to find out, I'm posting a teaser here: A 4 page massletter, the earliest one I could find in my files.

On behalf of the US Immigration Service, of which I am a part, I would like to apologize for continuing to use a rules system that was bloated and outdated when it was adopted IN 1952, and has, rather than being replaced, been tacked on too and "Updated" until its nearly as complex as US tax code. I do want to point out that you were REMARKABLY accurate in your portrayal of 2 books and the relative sizes of them, if you want, next time you're going to be at a meet, tell me and I'll actually show them to you. The Immigration and Naturalization Act of 1952 alone is thick enough to stop a 30-06 round fired from a bolt action rifle at point blank range.
the January 1 2009 revised edition of 8 C.F.R. (code of federal regulations); Aliens and Nationality, is over 1200 pages of extremely heavy duty paper stock and weighs about 10 lbs, the corresponding Immigration Law blue book (litigation series) is roughly 550 pages and weighs about 5 lbs, the INA 1952 is 550 pages as well, but is closer to 9 lbs as it is printed on legal size.. construction paper I think. Put another way, not including supplements and addendums, the immigration law one must wade through in the United States is 25 lbs of paper, or roughly a 2 foot thick section of a fully grown Redwood tree(once Dehydrated).
I've lived in the US, held a job, paid taxes, paid social security, have had a relationship with a American domestic partner for 11 years, held a valid work visa for close to 15 years, and I'm nowhere closer to being an American citizen than I was in 1997.
But I get lots of americans railing about "illegals" as if it was somehow easy to get a citizenship here. the government has made it insanely hard to play by the rules and become an american. Americans' ideas about their immigration system are frozen in about 1905 when you could just show up at Ellis Island, get your tongue inspected for the plague and they changed your name to "Robertson" from "Rabinowicz" and you were in. It hasn't been like that for a century.

Yeah, I rail against ILLEGALS for a reason, you went through all that, if you have a resident visa and you've been here 15 years, apply to take the test, that's all that stands in your way, you worked hard to be here, you didn't steal your way into this country, you intend to make your life here, you aren't sending a huge income back to your home country, and clearly from your post you learned the language. Trust me, I know a LOT about illegal aliens, I might be considered a subject matter expert. To make a comparison, if you want to buy a car, but can't get the financing, it does not make it okay to steal the car.
Hahaha, are you joking, what test, I can't take a test and become a citizen, you don't know shit. It's going to be another 9 years of H1Bs at the same job I currently have and thousands of dollars in lawyers. I make a six figure salary at a high tech company and I'm not able to become a citizen.
I could ace any test, I know more about american history than 99% of Americans. If it was just a stupid test I'd have taken it years ago.

You know what, previous argument removed, I don't care, if you've been here under an H1b since 1997 you are an overstay. By work Visa I thought you meant I-551 Resident Work permit, which would enable you to take the Citizenship test at this point.
Either way, you are a guest in this country, an invited guest, but a guest nonetheless, in this case apparently an overstay, you should try to be more polite.
You should check out my FA page btw. Believe me, I know wtf I'm talking about.

It hasn't been H1Bs, it's been mostly TN1s, and I renewed them every year like clockwork until I got the H1 which is up for renewal in a couple of years. My passport, paperwork is all up to date. I am legally in your country, as a "guest" who pays tax dollars that go to your salary but I have none of the rights of a citizen. I would like a permanent residency but the government makes that extremely difficult.
No quotations, you are literally a guest. You don't have the rights of a citizen because you are not a citizen, however constitutional protections continue to apply.
Damned right you pay tax dollars that go toward my salary, should I be thanking you? How about you thank the government I represent for providing you the opportunity to come here and work and earn that money you are paying taxes on, how about you thank the American people for creating a nation that could foster the type of industry which can afford to employ you at a six figure salary, and deigned to do so rather than train some AMERICAN college kid. Stop bitching for "MORE MORE MORE" and be thankful for what you have, then maybe you'll have the right perspective for America. We don't OWE you permanent residency, we make it difficult for a reason, nothing easily achieved is valued, and we are extremely selective of who we do allow to reside here permanently and legally because that is our option to do so.
You came here under a temporary worker classification under NAFTA, a classification might I add that exists specifically to discourage a change in status to LAPR, you then changed status to H1B because that is the recommended loophole to avoid endless TN-1 renewal and attempt a status change to LAPR because if you tried said status upgrade as a TN-1 you'd be deported on your next renewal(or because a lawyer told you to do so, knowing that if you applied for permanent residency while a TN-1 you'd be deported at your next renewal). Now you have a clock ticking and have six years to get approved for a i-551 or you'll have to leave because you traded temporary TN-1 status that you could have kept your entire life, for a shot at the brass ring. Seriously good luck, but we don't have to make it any easier for you. Life is not easy, Life is not fair, and telling a cop your taxes pay his salary is a 100% eternally guaranteed way to piss him off, no matter what kind of cop he is, I highly recommend you don't say that at any of your immigration hearings, the economy is fucked, and believe me any Immigration Judge would _LOVE_ to replace you at your job with someone who was born here and can't find work.
Assuming your Domestic Partner is female, why don't you just marry her, and then become a CR-1? You've been together 11 years, I don't think, nor will anyone else ANYONE in CBP, that its a fraud marriage.

Iam curious what would happen if a person attemting to apply for citizenship cant do it due to regulation in that huge 10 pound book somwhere, and starts demanding that you pull out the book and show him or her the exact rule that prevents them from attaining citizenship? Night in jail?
My domestic partner of twelve years is a man. Were it not for my relationship with him, I would have returned to Canada years ago. Sorry I had the misfortune to fall in love with someone and try to create a life here in a country I also (despite its flaws) love.
if/when DOMA is overturned and there's federal gay marriage, I will marry him. But the Republicans will be fighting that tooth and nail, much like they fight anything that might suggest I am an actual human being, and they (and you) have made it abundantly clear that they would prefer I drop dead or leave. I will stay here as long as the law permits me to.

I am a law abiding person. I earn my salary. It is a job at a company that I helped found, that employs some 45 people. I am thus a "job creator" in conservative parlance. I pay benefits I am not eligible to ever receive, such as social security. I have a college degree. I am white. I am knowledgable in American culture, history and politics. I admire America very much. I am everything America SAYS it wants as a new citizen. unfortunately I happen to be gay, which means I can pretty much take a hike. (or lie about who I am and engage in a fraud marriage, but I'm not willing to do that either.)
Sucks to be me, I guess!

Bryant has it right, the complaint against 'illegals' is not so much that they're here, but that the lawmakers seem to want to keep extending benefits to them and fast-tracking them to become legal, when those who ARE following the rules are forced to the sidelines.
Illegals are 'cutting in line,' and they're being REWARDED for it, while fine weasels like you are forced through one humiliation after another. THAT is what makes me mad.

You can't get it because you haven't committed a crime, you don't overburden the court system, IE, you can't turn yourself into ICE, do 2 or 3 months in a detention center, and then go before a judge who has to reserve official deportations for "Criminal Aliens" and therefor will simply grant you a "Work visa" pending an I-551.
BTW, everything the government is "Cracking down on" is already the law for all Legal Aliens, like yourself. Legal Immigration and the crack down on Illegal Immigration are completely divergent processes.
