Chrysanthemum bonsai needs to be defoliated in late summer, or the leaves will be too large and lush when the flowers bloom.

Out of your recent submissions, Phyll, this is my absolute favorite! The sitting postures of the two characters seem so natural, and both of their expressions just mesh together like clock cogs. It's simply perfect, in my opinion!--right down to the multitude of neatly rowed Bonsai plants. =)
Well.... to be honest, I am not really good at traditional horticulture. It was from last spring that Mr. Kim started to teach me this art of chrysanthemum raising, but unfortunately, he had to transfer to another job and there was limit to what one can teach in just a year. Though he left me a manual, there are things that written words can't teach.
I do love Cymbidium spp. of section Jensoa, though my love for orchids are not limited to them and includes tropicals and hybrids too.
Growing oriental Cymbidium, along with Neofinetia falcata, Sedirea japonica, and Dendrobium moniliforme, are indeed quite popular among old people. We have annual orchid exhibitions ran by Korean Orchid Growers Association, which usually are held in sometime between december and febuary. I like visiting these exhibitions as these are probably the largest orchid exhibitions in Korea, but their display are not really comparable in size and diversity to those of orchid fairs and exhibitions held in Japan, Europe, or US.

Most people have lost their interests to traditional cymbidiums, but it's a rich and noble hobby,I think.
Because prices of bulbs got really cheaper and cheaper,I have some variations of cymbidiums.
I always get them at World Orchid Exhibiton in Fabrary.
If you have time and money to visit Japan next Febrary I want to take you to there!

Yeah, young people in Korea are generally uninterested in oriental cymbidiums as well, and I think it is sad too. Some commercial growers in Korea are trying to make oriental cymbidiums more popular by hybridizing them with more flashy cultivars.... While I like some of their results, I don't think those cultivars can replace oriental cymbidiums.
By World Orchid Exhibiton, do you mean Japan Grand Prix International Orchid Show? I would really like to visit that show someday.... Though I don't think I would be able to visit any time soon.

Oh,yeah,I didn't care about the English name of the exhibition:P
I translated Japanese name into English directly.
I've heard about economic situations of your country so many times.
You can't buy a Big-Mac with the payment per an hour, right?
It's one of the reasons that a lot of Koreans(especially richs or who have their families in overseas)try to escape their country.

Yeah, it is true that Korean economy is suffering. Minimum pay per hour is approximately 4000 won, while a a Big Mac set costs 5000 something.
Though, what prevents my decision to travel to Japan(or any where else) is my timidness and mild social anxiety, rather than financial reasons.
