Thanks to a friend he gave me this idea for a tiger orca hybrid and while he's not a toy.. he's a flesh and blood fur and he's a new character of my own design!

O.o If you don't mind my saying so, people in conversations chat about hybrids all the time, or basic concepts . . . but it takes someone to develop the idea to be able to really stake any serious claim to it. After all, he DID say that he was talking to a friend when the idea came up . . . that sounds like some credit to me.
You can't copyright an idea. You can copyright a very specific image, or a specific song, but you can't copyright a concept. You can't even copyright a character (you can TRADEMARK them, but they have to be completely established and defined in a format such as a drawing). When we say "X appears copyright of Y" here we're not being very accurate.
If it were that simple to say "I had an idea of a mix" and lay claim to it, you wouldn't have a white tiger icon because someone else came up with a white tiger icon first, and no one else would have lions with white streaks in their manes (I know four, and I couldn't even legitimately lay claim as there's a guy with one who is born with those markings in RL). Like I said, inspiration from chatting with people comes all the time, and you can't claim a hybrid any more than anyone else can "claim" a concept. I can guarantee in the tens of thousands of furs out there, someone else thought of it before you anyway. ;)
