Not a very descriptive render but I figured I'd post it anyway.
I was between some projects in my portfolio list and I decided to do something in the spur of the moment and whipped this up for a slightly larger project; A Thompson M1A1. This is the “high poly” version of the base mesh even though its almost manageable as a real time asset at roughly 10k triangles.
I wanted to take a stab at updating the Thommy to the 21st century. I watched and Episode of Sons Of Guns on Discovery where they did something similar with a Thompson though I didn't think they took it far enough with the modifications they made. They may have added a rail to it but it looked like a tac on to me so I wanted to take the concept further with a fully updated kit.
I'm planning on making adapters to popular after market parts (AR style stocks, weever rail mounted accessories) using the Thomy gun Upper/Lowers as abase for the project. I'm not trying to reinvent the thommy gun so the internals are all the same I just want the exterior of the weapon to be accommodating for modern equipment.
I'm having a problem with feature creep so the concept isn't quite nailed down yet but I have a rough Idea where I want to go with it.
For the moment this is the only render I have of it. I had some more but I guess this was the only one I saved. Hopefully I'll have some more in the coming weeks (I start a new job today) but I don't even know if I'll pick up the projects I already have in my queue because of the crazy schedule I'm supposed to be working.
Anyway, enjoy!

heh, what would make it more than a 3d model is if I could find someone with an M1A1 trigger housing and a set of calipers (or at least willing to take a buttload of pictures) I modeled the parts using machinest plates unfortunately they where labeled wrong and the trigger housing was from a 1298. the main difference is how the stock is mounted so to make a functional adapter I'd need the correct measurements for it. oh well I can only hope ^^'
