I have made journal rants before about this, but Pie helped me turn it into a comic. Obviously "non-furries" aren't THIS extreme. I kinda over did it to make a point. I don't have issues with keeping secrets. I do it myself. But when you deny who you are to people who would understand, it kinda comes across as smug and self-absorbed.
This met it's pinnacle when I met a fursuiter at RF11 who was actually like this, which is what this comic is mostly based off of. What he said to me wasn't word for word, obviously. But, he was a fursuiter who didn't wanna be called a furry. And he did ask me if I ever RP'ed which is a question that totally burns bridges with me.
So yeah, it's just a kinda social commentary and joke. If you don't find it funny, that's fine. But, it's not ment to be drama. Just something I would hope to give you fellow furries a lil giggle. ^_^

Most furs I know are like that, so it stopped being a point of annoyance for me. Sometimes in really polite company I'll shrug it off if anyone mentions being furry, but I don't go into full on denial. Most people know me as their 'furry' friend and the spreader of the 'disease' but I lawl it off. People taking being a furry or not so seriously. It's just a culture you participate into, each to their own degree, no different than any other. It's like being a gamer, a pot smoker, gay, whatever you're into. If you're gonna be ashamed of it, then why bother getting involved in it?
Well I dunno how to explain it but for me it makes since. I say I'm not a furry because I don't feel like one.
Before I found the fandom, I drew animals, pretended to be an animal, and dressed up as one, but I wasn't a furry.
I've found the fandom and I still do those same things I did before I found it, and I just dont think I should call myself
one just because I found a name for it. Lastly I don't want to sound like a money monger or something but its also
all about market for me. I could make my art and try to get commissions on DA or I can cater to a certain audience here
on FA and have better chances of making money. I'm not here just for the money, cause I've totally made friends here

You're a furry if you accept the name. If you don't, you're not.
And yes, I find it a little disingenuous to 'not be a furry', and have a furry avatar, go to furry cons, roleplay a furry on Mucks, draw furry art, and spend several months ahead of cons preparing portfolios. I know a few furs who decided they weren't going to be furs anymore, but frankly had levels of participation an order of magnitude higher than mine. I'm a furry, but I'm bored with it most of the time and like other things, but I had a hard time figuring out how I was supposed to tell they'd stopped.
Then again, i've known some Christians who were way better, even though they never went, and I was the atheist for going to church every other week. Whatever sticks when you throw it at the wall I guess.
Tip for the apocalypse, tell everyone you're an ex-soldier cop, and then you are!
