Good thing furries have a sense of humor and aren't easily offended, otherwise this could get nasty!

personally I don't think going over the top with character appearance is a sign of creativity. Real creativity goes into depth the personality, the hopes and those things always found in the character's pockets. It shouldn't matter what they look like, but more who the character associates with, what they do in their spare time, and what they hope to do in their future, or what they've done in their past. Creativity is not limited to how many colors and tails you can add to an already over done character, but more what the reason behind each little scar, and bit of cloth they call an outfit. I've seen "generifox" with more creativity then most characters that are over the top with colors and parts.

Yeah, true that. It's kind of funny to see furries with all those sparky characters complain about other people who happen to have less 'creative' characters. Not that I really care about it. And you pretty much summed it all up.

^ A billion times this. My fursona may be a crazy thing, but she's not meant to be "slice of life". The so called "generic" characters work much better as far as everyday believability goes.

Especially considering most of these species in RL have pretty considerable uniformity in appearance anyway... :P

A wolf can, at least theoretically, have a 'round' head - I'm not a biologist, so I'm working on the assumption it works like human bodies. Even if it doesn't, we're talking about humanoid wolves here, so it might for them.
Heck, given the presence of 'hybrids', they might even have 'short' muzzles, or long, or a skull-structure significantly different from the norm, and their fur might be coarser or smoother than normal, or curl, or be straight if the fur is supposed to curl.

Compared to going off of slight differences in cheek-structure and facial proportions, like humans have to, I figure fur-to-fur recognition is easy

And sometimes generifoxes evolve into Addadetailfoxes, where if you take a generifox, and add a pair of wings or an extra tail or even a hyperpene, THAT MAKES ALL THE DIFFERENCE IN THE WORLD!

Not really.
The reason why foxes are such a basic stage for fursona development is becuase of "Robin Hood".

For me it was never Robin Hood.. I never really watched that cartoon and I did find it extremly boring in a cartoon way anyways, I loved the human version of the Robin Hood though and the concept itself

But regardless of that .. for me it was never basic, its who I always was and be . Do I feel offended by that ? I could be, but I do not believe it was meant to be offensive . Its not lack of creativity, I do agree with a person on a top of this comment list, the second comment here . Fursona anyways its not about character .. its not about oc .. something which doesn't have to do anything with you other than the fact you created it ... its basicly you, seen in the different light . Some people doesn't know who they are or who they want to be so their sonas oftenly change ... I was lucky enough to have quite an easy time finding out all about it but not everyone have it that easy.
