Last Friday, after returning from orch rehearsal, we saw something sitting by the road, and I got excited - we barely ever see hedgehogs in our neighbourhood anymore, so I was hyped up to see one of the little dears again.
However, after realising that was a pretty uncommon place for a hedgehog to sit still at, we went to inspect what was up, and discovered the poor thing had been killed by a car. It was a horrible sight, and I got quite upset about the whole ordeal. Mum later buried it somewhere nearby, so it wouldn't get run over again and have the little dear degraded even further.
In an attempt to find some peace with it, I decided to dedicate a nice illustration to the little thing. Where-ever he may be now, at least there won't be any cars.
And to all who have a license and regularly drive; with fall having come around, we again have to share the road with plenty of animals scuttling around in search of a proper place to hibernate. Pay attention, and take care to avoid any killings if you can. Hedgehogs have become pretty rare in my area because of this whole ordeal. Of course I understand such mishaps can't always be prevented, but it's always nice to give it a try.
Sleep tight, little one.
