It's definitely humid in much of the south and east, though out west there's a HUGE desert that I hope to get out to see sometime very soon.
As far as teaching English over here, I'd say it's well worth it but the main thing is to just be careful. I've never met anyone with an all-out horror story like I've heard rumors of, though I've heard of people getting in some awkward situations. The best rule is to go with a school in a real city. As exotic and adventurous as it sounds to go out into the middle of China and teach English, odds are it's going to be just dirty, strange, and miserable. Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu, Nanjing, Guangzhou, Qingdao, Dalian... a school in one of those places should be fine. Korea, Japan, and Taiwan are great places to teach, too.

you know, you see paintings of places like this, done in traditional bamboo brush, and think, or i do, that no place could actually look like that, to be that much virtical and all, and i grew up in mountains myself, that can be quite spectacular in places too, but granite fault block mountains rather then columnar basalt ones, and i see a picture of a place like this. i mean it's not the first i've seen ever or anything like that, but it IS rather unusual this particular kind of extreme of landforms.
