We had the General Lee in our booth at SEMA one year and Barris walked up to me. He was asking for John Schnider (who was visiting our booth) and I had no idea who he was. I wasn't impolite, but I didn't think he warranted any special attention over anyone else. When I was told who that was I was like OMG I'm an idiot. Never got the chance to apologize to him for that.

Reminds me of a friends wife who was sitting at a bar in Las Vegas. The one and only Dale Earnhardt sat down next to her and chatted it up with her a little before leaving. She didn't realize it was him until she saw him on the news before the race that weekend.

Apparently he's got a favorite shop in Sacramento that does the restoration work and then the Vintage Ford parts store displays the vehicles until one of his reps comes by to trailer the cars off to where ever he's going to keep them. They had the Batmobile in the store when I went by there and a bunch of stuff singed by Barris too. They had that Munster coach in there as well if I understood the people working there correctly.

I've also seen Grampa Munster's Dragula. It's in a private museum at Galpin Ford in SoCal.

Barris is a god in the auto world .

The cornball TV-show Batmobile was such a striking design, Alex Ross worked it into Batsie's custom anti-mind-control armor in one of his epic GLA stories:

And of course, we all know how much Rob Zombie loves the Dragula...

I've actually met George Barris in person three times in over two years. He would come by the Cruise Night here in my hometown, while they had it, the Thursday before he was to be at the Volo Auto Museum in Volo, IL later that same weekend.
