This song hase been on mind a lot lately. I have been watching many many videos of the absolutely disgusting behavior of the cops out in oakland. It is wonder to me that there are actually people that will say things like:
"I wish they were shooting real bullets"
"I hope they beat them with batons"
(All pulled from IRC logs)
The fact that people can't at the very least see the humanity in others is simply amazing to me.
Every
single
person
you
meet
has
a
mother
father
people
that
love
them
and
that
they
love
This goes for everyone. The Protesters, the cops, every single person.
Whether or not you support OWS, I can't see how any reasonable person could say they agree with this kind of violence.
Lyrics:
The eastern world;
It is explodin'.
Violence flarin';
Bullets loadin'.
You're old enough to kill,
But not for votin'.
You don't believe in war,
But what's that gun you're totin'?
And even the Jordan River
Has bodies floatin',
But ya tell me
Over and over and over again, my friend,
Ah, you don't believe
We're on the eve of destruction
And don't you understand
What I'm tryin' to say
And can't you feel the fears
That I'm feelin' today?
If the button is pushed,
There's no runnin' away.
There'll be no one to save
With the world in a grave.
Take a look around you, boy.
It's bound to scare you, boy
And ya tell me
Over and over and over again, my friend,
Ah, you don't believe
We're on the eve of destruction
But think of all the hate
There is in red China.
Then take a look around
To Selma, Alabama.
You may leave here
For four days in space,
But when you return
It's the same old place.
The poundin' of the drums,
The pride and disgrace.
You can bury your dead,
But don't leave a trace.
Hate your next door neighbor,
But don't forget to say grace
And tell me
Over and over and over and over again, my friend,
You don't believe
We're on the eve of destruction.
Ah, no, no, you don't believe
We're on the eve of destruction.

That's phoenix for you. They love guns there. I spent the better part of a year living in Mesa for my luthier school and I couldn't wait to get out of there. it would have been kinda around the time that the minute man movement started.
I used to see hookers out at my 711, once in a while heard gunshots at night and at least once, not so distant gunshots. The politically conservative mentality that permeates every aspect of life there is nearly as toxic as the brown haze that sits over the city. No one helps any one it seemed was the state moto.
Anyway, that aside, I really hope that the protests stay as peaceful as posible.
