This is a composite of 5 images, taken at different focus points and then stacked together using an application called CombineZM.
This technique is commonly referred to as focus stacking.
This allows me to get break out of the narrow depth of field I have to work with using my current equipment. This is especially evident with such a large specimen.

This was my first experiment with image stacking and I think it came out pretty ok.

It's tough to do this in the field, so I don't know how well I can do this with spiders. Everything has to be perfect in each shot for it to line up right.
This beetle was easy since we were in a controlled environment and it didn't move.
