lol silly rats

mine have always done this, even when i refill the bottle before its empty they all glob on and drink at once

so many ratty tongues!

So mine arent dying of thirst, no matter how hard they try to convince me, aye, Sneaky lil fluffbutts!

They are so dramatic, rats are hardy enough to go without food or water up to 3 days just fine but pet rats without food for 10 minutes= "WE'RE STARVING AAAA! SNAG AS MUCH FOOD AS YOU CAN!"

So true!!!! Any time mine here us feeding the cats they start acting like they havent been feed in weeks!

Ohh, how big is your rat family?

At the moment . . .9 boys (4 adult 1 senior and the rest lil guys) and 6 girls (1 adult rest daughters)
All of them have my heart wrapped around their lil toes too

Aww that's adorable ; u; If I could afford it I'd love to have a big ol' colony myself, but for now these 4 will do. I once had about 20 rats at one time, way way back when I could handle it financially XD

Yeah we had a bigger colony, but a respiratory infection took alot of or older and senoirs. And recently some of our older females have passed, so our colony is much smaller.

Man that respiratory infection is the worst because it's so darned common ; A;

Right, even with antibiotics and medicine we lost over half of what we had at the time

i miss having a nice big rat boy group, im down to only two at the moment and the bedroom just feels so empty without more fuzzies in there

I couldnt handle having rats as pets, they seem so cute, but I gotta slight fear of being bitten by incisors. That and the dog tries to eat the mice I give to my snake *sweatdrops*

but yeah they can be adorable they are like waves of fluffyness when they run abotu

Oh, out of all household rodents, rats are the least likely to bite. I've owned well over 70 in my life, and only got bit 3 times, once by a protective mother, once by an adopty who was abused and scared of people, and the last time by a rat who was pretty badly injured and in a lot of pain.
I've had hamsters, gerbils, mice, and guinie pigs, and none of them are nearly as sweet or cuddly as a rat, and all the others have bitten me for no reason at all.
The most a rat might do is give a tiny soft nip at you to groom you, but it doesn't hurt or leave any marks at all.

i can concur with this, ive owned more then 100 rats and never been bitten once, but when i had mice and gerbils and hamsters, oh boy all of them can get mean for apparently no reason
hell id even had more injury from my chinchillas then from my rats

Ive been biten by protective mums 2 fur sure, but only once by a male . . and he had agression issues, got him fixed and he was fine till he passed at an old age of 2 almost 3

It reminds me so much of when we had guinea pigs still, they'd fight each other to get the water bottle any time you refilled it. It was always funny listening to them squealing at each other like "Hey, back off, it's my water! D<" I miss having guinea pigs around, but I'd still love to get some pet rats or ferrets one day when I move out. They're just too adorable not to love having around.
