I am working on an art book alongside another sketch book. The sketch book I am doing for
kahluax but the art book is something specific that may take even longer (the first I have been working on a year). The art book for
eden2010 is going to be filled with images of Alps growing up from his earliest memories, to his present in the series that exists in the known storyline. I don't know how far into it I will get, but it will essentially act like a picture diary. No words, as Alps early on can't read or write. These are just images from his life.
These images are done on a standard size book which has about 80 pages of inviting blank bristol paper. The book is hard-bound and attractive, but simple in black. The images are done with prismacolor marker.
My reason for this? Well, to say thank you to Eden and Silvermane for their friendship and assistance through a hard time, and also, for practice so that I can become a better artist and try new things I might not have been buggered to try.
These images have Alps during the time he was in the orphanage in Seravi. He didn't get along with the other kids because his white fur was seen as weird, so he spent a lot of time adventuring on his own. This does not get brought up much in the story, but before he became a slave, he still had quite a lot of fun, as any kid should. Even though he got more than his share of the chores, he had time on nice days to go out and play. Playing meant exploring, learning about living, and just being a kid. It was rough, but not too bad, just like my own life. I grew up poor, but even poor kids can have fun.
This is page four, incidentally, I am not gonna try and scan and post the whole thing unless Eden wishes it, but the image of Alps fishing was one of my favorite. The image below it, exploring the crystal cave and finding a glowing essence crystal, was very hard to color. I tried new styles of lighting and all. I was not as happy with it. Alps was fascinated by crystals as a kid, not realizing it was because he barely remembered being trapped in a Shadowfall crystal. For now, it's just pretty. A lot of the early images will be kind of sad, as adjustment takes a while, but the book is more about persevering no matter how bad things get, and eventually being rewarded for it. Those familiar with the story know that he gets heavily rewarded for staying kind and positive through it all. Anyhow, enjoy. ^^
