Sorry for the long delay in my postings of my ongoing Equestria dreamscape, but my day job is really taking it out of me. Unfortunately the next three weeks will be more of the same.
When we last left off Celestia, Luna, Twilight, Petina and myself along the palace staff had been poring over our options on how to defeat the Lord of Shadows http://www.furaffinity.net/view/6397186/ and release the ponies he had made "permanent guests" http://www.furaffinity.net/view/6505853/ However our research had not brought us any immediate solutions.
Using me as a medium Paynes Gray http://www.furaffinity.net/view/6385105/ continued voice his opinion that the only way to defeat the Lord of Shadows was for me to write a new ending the Paynes original novel "The Kingdom of Shadows" and illustrate the demise of him. Then use my inherited talent to bring the scene to live forcing the Lord of Shadows to act out his on death.
That sounded just too convenient and Celestia and Luna both pointed out that odds were very high that it would backfire in our faces. However most other means of magic were of only limited help against a being who can escape through tiny crack and shadow. In the end we kept coming back to the two facts we knew. If we could get the Lord of Shadows to a place where no shadows existed and no cracks or crevices were present to escape through then you could defeat him. Even the Elements of Harmony would be of limited use.
Celestia made the observation that she knew of a place with no shadows. The surface of the sun, but she was very certain that the Lord of Shadows would not take up Celestia's offer of a picnic on the surface of the sun since she can walk on it with no ill effect due to an energy field/ spell that surrounds her when she is there.
Luna knew of a place in Equestria that had no cracks or crevices and that was the planetarium located under the palace in Everfree where she and Celestia learned how to manage the sun and the moon. It is a magical constructed smooth hemisphere and when its door is closed it has not single crack or seam is to be found. Luna had been back there since her return and found it to still be functional.
After a couple days we had an unexpected visit from Applejack who came up to Canterlot to visit us and see what progress we had made and say hi to Twilight. She said that she some time on her hand since applebucking season was over, but had our own reports that said she was having really trouble being anywhere around the farm http://www.furaffinity.net/view/6564263/ at the moment which was tearing her up mentally.
Now this whole time I was trying to think of something I could to do to help with the skills I had. I knew I was staring at the solution but couldn't put my hoof on it. Then one day I was following behind Celestia with our group in tow when I looked up at the princess's flanks and realized that was the answer. Of course. It was so obvious.
I was so excited at my revelation that without even thinking I reared back on my hind legs and planted my front hooves on her cutie marks. Now I have it on very good authority, Luna, that Celestia's cutie mark does not usually make a sound like a clown car horn but in this case it did. For several seconds nothing happened. Everyone just froze at the realization of what had occurred. Then Celestia looked over her shoulder and just glared at me. I just stared at her as the full impact of what I had done sunk in. Petina just smiled. Applejack scowled at me and part of Twilight's brain blew out her nose.
After a series of hasty apologies I quickly began to outline sudden idea for defeating our adversary. Of course Petina had jumped to her own hedonistic conclusion what my intentions were. This resulted Applejack wondering even more about the moral character of Petina. The girl has a rather one track mind at times.
My clever little plan was to arrange our formal meeting with the Lord of Shadows in the planetarium; however before he arrived I would paint a giant symbol of the sun on the floor. If we were unable to come diplomatic solution then I would use my talent to summon a representation of the sun inside the room. Celestia would be there of course for the negotiations and she could use her powers to make certain that my little version of the sun didn't get out of hand. With the door closed the entire room would be engulfed in the fiery light of the sun and our enemy would me no more.
Everyone thought the plan was ingenious but almost everyone saw some potential problem with the idea. Luna pointed out that it would take time to paint the symbol and the longer it took the great the chance that the Lord of Shadow might intervene. Twilight reminded me that more accurate and precise I rendered an image the more stable it appeared. Would I be able to create that large of an picture and still control it?
Finally Celestia noted the most dangerous flaw in my grand scheme. For me to create my own little version of the sun I would have to be inside the planetarium since tests conducted by the princess's had determined that I could not remotely bring one of my drawings to life. Celestia was pretty certain that I be one very incinerated little pony before succeeded in finishing my greatest creation.
I hate when my subconscious decides to shoot holes in my great ideas. However I had some possible answers to their questions. One we could run some tests in palace to see just how much time I need and possibly come up with a solution that would address the time and accuracy constraints. As for me being turned into a flash blind, crispy pony I asked Celestia how big was the field/ spell that protected her from the fiery violence of the sun? "Not that big." was her answer. Undaunted I asked whether she could extend just a bit. Maybe enough that I could huddle under her and would that be enough? She thought said maybe but we would need to test that to. It looked like we have a bit of homework in front of us.

And I bet your idea about "Huddling under Celestia" could probably be interpreted differently by Petina too. Does she do that all the time? xD
Pretty much. For Petina sex is usually an important end goal her mind, and if she amongst people who she feels comfortable with she has no problems saying it. you don't really exist in her world until she has done a sizing up and decided whether your worth trying to get into bed. Now she may decide that she is not interested in you but at now you have been evaluated, assessed and cataloged, and it is a system that is constantly reevaluated, reexamined with various individuals being moved up and down the hierarchical chain. Wealth, power, prestige are all aphrodisiacs for having really great rolls in the bed! Oh and shopping trips.

Vipera? Now, who's that?
Okay this might take some explaining. Are you aware that Petina outside of Equestria dreamscape is usually a 8.5" tall white female mouse? http://www.furaffinity.net/view/6186999/ http://www.furaffinity.net/view/862172/ She has been a regular in my dreamscapes since around 1993 and is now one of my three regular muses http://www.furaffinity.net/full/3462041/ along with Rosemary http://www.furaffinity.net/view/2531316/ http://www.furaffinity.net/view/2347965/ and Abdul http://www.furaffinity.net/view/1129218/ http://www.furaffinity.net/view/1622617/ http://www.furaffinity.net/view/1644566/
Now will probably notice that Petina appears to be showing up in several different periods in history and this would be correct. Petina, along with Vipera, was a character I created for proposed comic book called Blaster Raccoon. Which was a parody of Tom Corbett style 1950s space comics set in the 24th Century. In fact Petina and Vipera are only a handful of characters that I have actively went out and created. Most are just byproducts of my sleep/ dreams.
Now Vipera, her real name is Dolores Penelope Bluebell, http://www.furaffinity.net/view/6323854/ was suppose to be the main villain of the Blaster Raccoon universe. She born of nobility and has through hook and by crook has arranged that she will eventually become the Baroness of the Bluebell fortune http://www.furaffinity.net/view/1843939/
However what her family and her homeworld is unaware of is that Vipera has several separate identities in different star systems of the Solar Confederacy. To some she is a dangerous space pirate and smuggler/ slaver http://www.furaffinity.net/view/1999290/ . in some star systems she is a fairly popular stage performer who goes by the name of Firetail http://www.furaffinity.net/view/1256728/ http://www.furaffinity.net/view/983413/ http://www.furaffinity.net/view/955227/ Finally is some star systems she is a successful business woman.
Now originally Petina was just a spear carrier character who was suppose to be on camera for a few minutes. Her original role was that of a former college girlfriend who was now a very highly paid callgirl who shows up just long enough to give the protagonist some important information about Vipera and exit stage left. That theory last about three seconds with Petina. Once got a hold of the camera she wasn't letting go.
In fact Petina immediately started carving out a chunk of my subconscious as her home turf. Time and location were irrelevant. Petina has also turned into Vipera's number one adversary and vice a versa. Both seem to abide by the theory of keep your friends close and your enemies closer. So they have a tendency of show up in the same location. As general rule they have adopted the rule that at when they are around me they keep their war down to a dull roar. What happens out of my sight and my immediate friends is another story.
Now Petina does have one advantage since she is the only character of mine that knows she is a product of subconscious and can see the big picture unfiltered and unedited. She is relatively good at not abusing that privilege too much. Although she has done some stuff recently in Equestria, stuff I have not yet posted, that has gotten glares from me and some of the inhabitants. Sorry if this is a very long reply.

And as a farm filly, Applejack knows exactly what she's talking about, too!
Poor Twilight. (And Petina looks almost smug in that group reaction shot.)
Yeah, your reaction on the discovery wasn't the best. And what you said -- "I've been staring at..."? That didn't help at all!
In addition to your "survival" (assuming that as a dream-projection you can't be just reconstituted), there's also the question of what happens to the prisoners and hostages LoS took and to a lesser degree one Paynes Gray.
(If I were plotting something like this, Sunrise might still have a positive role to play.)

Yeah farm fillies now all about the birds and the bees.
Poor Twilight. (And Petina looks almost smug in that group reaction shot.)
Yeah Twilight made this funny little squeaking sound like some small animal was getting stepped on. And it wasn't Petina in her mouse form. For her part Petina would like a bit more "character interaction" between the main cast anyways.

Probably could have chosen my words better when it happened. Oops.

This dream arc is already over but I will say that the question comes up later. Stay tuned.

While I'm fascinated by and wish I could experience even a part of your dreamscapes (particularly this one, even with LoS mucking things up) the way you do, I find myself dreading encountering Petina. Not because I'd expect her to do anything mean to me, but because we approach a subject of mutual interest from such completely different perspectives. I'd feel like prey to her predator!

I'll be interested in all the results, even the ones I somehow anticipated.
Stay tuned.
I absolutely will.

As humerous as this comic is, and as brilliant as the current plan seems, it won't work. Even if the planetarium is smooth, you and Celestia aren't. When you summon the sun, there will still be some sort of shadow cast by/on your bodies that he could hide in.
I'd like to offer 2 alternative ideas: as opposed to a sun in the center, instead find a way to make every surface in the planetarium glow uniformly, dome AND floor. There's still a chance some small parts of your body will be shaded, but I think it stands a better shot than the sun idea.
Idea number 2 work off a very important technicality, which seems to be best way to deal with these sort of monsters: he's the lord of shadows, not the lord of darkness. Shadows are created by and defined by light. If you trap him in the planetarium, and then suddenly turn out every light, he'd be trapped in a place of absolute darkness... but a place with no shadows.

I so love the death glare Celestia is giving you after the rump grab! I have to wonder what Luna thought of it later when she heard about it; I have this mental image of her waiting until her big sis leaves the room and then rolling on the floor laughing.
(Or if someone did it to the Lunar Princess: suddenly you're on your back, she's in her Nightmare Moon form, she has one hoof on your chest, and is saying in a very icy tone: "And just what do you think you're doing?")
And the conversation between Applejack and Petina is so very comical. One shudders to think what'll happen if AJ catches Petina getting romantic with her brother Big Mac.
And as for the plan... I'm so very eager to see how well it works. Certainly the Lord of Shadows has had things going his own way in Equestria for way too long.

Yes i consider myself lucky that magical candy-colored lasers beams didn't fire from her eyes right then and there.

Yeah AJ has made clear to Petina that she would not be welcome at Sweet Apple Acres if she caught Petina and Big Mac packing the hay in the barn.

Just... the way you phrased this! I really can imagine Applejack saying it like that, too.
I wonder, have any of the other girls of the mane six learned just how randy Petina is? And how did they react? I can see Fluttershy fainting. But Pinkie or Dashie might be going, "Hmm, it sounds fun the way she talks. Hey, maybe..."

Oh the other fillies are now aware of Petina's habits and interests. Since Petina and I stayed at the library for awhile Twilight was the first to become aware of Petina's habits. interests, fascinations and hobbies. Twilight's opinion is that a one could write an entire graduate thesis about the hedonistic, kinky, megalomaniac white unicorn mare.
Pinkie thinks Petina is great party pony but nothing more than that at this time.
Fluttershy was a....um...well...ah....er....amazed! At Petina's passion for the such things.
Rainbow Dash was the one who was caught the most flat foot of the bunch. Dash in my dreamscape is often one brag about such topics but is still a virgin and starts babbling and looking confused when one starts making pointed comments to her about it.
Rarity is surprisingly very accepting of Petina. One she is the most "worldiy" of the Mane Six in my version of the world, and two Petina has a love of fashion so she can talk shop to with Rarity for hours. Besides I imagine Rarity having a fairly large collection of racy romance novels in her bedroom.

Heh, I can actually see the in-show version of Dash this way! Bragging about her performing "aerial maneuver 69" with every colt in Ponyville and all the while fervently hoping that no one figures out that she's an utter innocent in these matters.
Hmm, that may well be the only fanfic idea about Dash that's never been used!

Yeah, it's usually fanon that Rarity has a pile of racy romance novels under lock and key (to keep Sweetie Belle out of them), as well as a journal filled with steamy stallion fantasies.
And now I see Dash "borrowing" the journal just to find out "what it's like" so she can make her tall tales of amorous adventure more realistic. Rarity goes hunting for her journal in a panic (without telling anyone exactly what it is), and hilarity ensues.

>Fluttershy was a....um...well...ah....er....amazed! At Petina's passion for the such things.
I think Fluttershy's reaction might depend strongly on whether she already knows that Pernitia isn't 'really' a Pony. After all, Applejack know about the birds and the bees, but as an animal expert Futtershy knows all that a *much* more. She might start demanding details! In the name of science of course...

You almost made me blast my computer with the iced tea I was drinking! Hilarious! I really should be more careful with your dreamscape postings.
P.S. I've noticed that a lot of cutie marks seem to come complete with sound effects in your dreamscape. Don't let Pinkie know...!
P.P.S. Now there will probably be a lot of jealous ponies trying thye same thing. *Is vaporized by a freak solar flare*

"I've been staring at it the whole time!" - I'm sure I'm not the only one who (slightly) misread that the first time.
I do like that middle panel. Not just for the obvious reasons. The placement of Celestia's starboard wing makes it look like she suddenly has a feathered crest (only vissible when startled apparently!). Made me snigger until I worked out the angles.

No they weren't but at least Petina was unable to make her usual Powerpoint presentation in Equestria. I swear she has become addicted to that piece of 21th century software. So she had to revert to her favorite fallback device. Flip charts. Where she got them I don't know. She's like Pinkie Pie in that sense. However after I made some spontaneous ill-chosen comment she was able to make her presentation within a couple hours complete with them.
For her part Twilight was not there, nor were most of the other members of the team when Petina made her expanded pitch, But Luna was and it was interesting to see someone flip back and forth between snickering in her hoof and blushing.
