Ohh I remember this with my old master system and genesis
I hope you don't mind me saying this I love your take on the guys but it's odd with so many fan art piecies on here it's all about taking clothing off the cartoon chars. you take two chars who are naked on there show and put clothing on them
*chuckles*
but the outfits suit them

Yep, I remember blowing dust out of the NES and the game cartridge. Sometimes it'd work, sometimes it didn't. Sometimes I'd blow hard enough that I'd be spitting at it. And those little black cartridge half-holder things always got dusty, so it's like why put them back at all if they'll rest on dust anyway. The cartridges were convenient to place standing up, but in hindsight maybe I should have placed them on their side. And this was back when I had an entertainment center, so the TV would be in one compartment and the games were easy access on the compartment just to the right.
I remember thinking this is how every videogame system was meant to be: blow dust out. I forget if the manual told us to blow or if it was an evolution of humankind that taught us the vital instinct to blow out dust. When the SNES came around, I'd still blow into the cartridges... just in case. Which was just as well because I was routinely losing the plastic covers, and now the SNES ones were transparent and smaller so I'd lose them more easily, so I just pitched every holder for consistency reasons. Then darn it Nintendo, N64 cartridges had to come with NO holders.
We'd buy NES cartridges from Half Price Books because they had some games underneath glass. Or even better, Toys R' Us. You'd go to the game section, grab a slip of paper, take it to an area in the corner of the store where behind the glass is a color cornucopia of games. Guy takes your slip, gives you a pristine new game box all sealed up... good times. Nowadays it's just "go to EB Games, grab that game case, pay, outta there". We've lost the magic that the buying process once had.
That and we've lost the durability of old machines (either that or Nintendo's always been about systems lasting a long time - I'm glad someone's thinking about us, or they just expect their stuff will get thrown around by little kids the most). The days when two AA batteries in a Game Boy would last a LONG time! ...the days when Nintendo Power was good... the days when you'd accidentally leave a cartridge outside and have the dog eat it (the game was "Popeye" so I guess it got the death it deserved)... the days when Bubble Bobble was good. *sigh*

Seems like the cartridges lasted long enough otherwise, so it was a good trade-off. Until eventually an NES top-loader was released, thank goodness. But somehow either I didn't see them in stores or I didn't like the idea of replacing my console with a slightly different model (it still worked after all).
I still do that to my SNES. =P
Unfortunately I'm just a hair too old for the NES. Hasn't stopped me from loving it just the same tho. Gotta buy one offa eBay..
And as for the copper corroding.. you can scrub them pretty hard to clean them. With discs you gotta be so gentle. XD
Nice pic!

I remember blowing into the games... and the console... AND and I used to push down and release the game a lot... back and forth, going "THIS IS HELPING!" and it did a bit. Then my cousin was doing it, and the lock broke. He immediately ran away. XD! We still have that NES, we lock the games down with another game loaded on top.
Ahh the days from when we used to watch movies and go "FUCK! ADJUST THE TRACKING! DO IT! NOO TOO MUCH!"

yep, definitely went on a nostalgia trip when I saw this.
Being born at the beginning of the 90s though, my experience with blowing in cartridges had more to do with my N64 cartridges rather than NES. That isn't to say I never experienced it though. My grandparents had an NES for us grandkids to play over there, and I still remember the lightheadedness and frustration from a trying to get a few games to work.
