This started as an attempt to return to the old. It's been a long time, at least two American presidents ago, since I pencil shaded a drawing. this image sorta popped into my head and the shading began. Once the shading was done, I scanned the image and then ran with it.
I used two of cloaks's awesome textures. The wallpaper textures are © to her. The image is © 2011 to me.
Hope you dig.

Felis ante identitas, "Happy alternate identity"? This looks like the cat has subjected that woman's body to its own will, expelling the original human soul by trapping it in some kind of limbus...
Say, could it be this is not a portrait on the wall, but a mirror that we're looking into? In that case, it reminds me a bit of that one Velazquez painting: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Las_Meninas Or this one by M. C. Escher: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikiped.....ing_Sphere.jpg

It means "cat before identity" It was a statement about how once someone owns a cat, the cat takes over their life and then you get little from some of them beyond stories about their cat. They trade their personality for a pet that literally eats their identity.
Thanks for the favorable comparisons.
