I was inking up this commissioned image where the patron wanted two Quange horse centaurs dealing with an old time Automobile, and came up with a story scenario that added a touch of humor to the situation. I figured the Honeymooning couple had the fancy automobile rented, and due to a mishap on the road they had to have their damage machine taken to the local Blacksmith for repairs. I came up with several other ideas for a "Follow up" to this image, but in brief the story goes that everything worked out for the better. Mrs. Kewlbasti took the couple in for the night, and the lovers got to Niagra Falls okay thanks to the help of the local townsfolk.

back when the streets' conditions were a menace. small wonder they used so tall wheels and heavy-duty springs and stuff. germany's very first public bus line was founded in 1908 and was given up a year later due to the streets. they have probably hammered the body to shreds...
nice and humourus scenery. I doubt the renter will have much off his fee income with a repair like that... ^^
as usual all relevant details are in place. I just wonder if you used a specific machine for the car? it looks familiar... :)

Oh you should have seen the original sketch. I gave the car a sort of boat like prow, and a tall windshield like on a "Model T." The client suggested I change the vehicle a bit to resemble the "Horseless Carriage" type of automobiles which were popular at the turn of the last Century. I couldn't resist and added the heavy handle on the "Mack" truck style hood because it looked like the car was sticking out it's tongue as if it was "Sick." There's a little Daimler in there, plus Packard, but mainly I was just mish-mashing various Automotive trends in designs of the time together.
I think the scene would have been too early for a boat-tail. :) aha, Mack truck; I thought the hood looked familiar. :) Renault used a similar design for their wasted-water-cooled engine types.
in the end it doesn't matter, since this ain't a scene from earth, after all. :)

Such tradesmen were pretty common in the early days of the 20th Century as the country transitioned from horse drawn conveyances to the Automobile. I agree though. It'd be nice to have small ironworking shops and forges around again. California just about EQMD'ed the metalworking and iron industries into extinction by the 1980s.
Holy smokes talk about thread necromancy! Eight years later you reply? Did you have this in your list of comments to reply to all this time? Dang!
I do think we should cultivate more of these kind of trades for a variety of reasons, mostly because it would revitalize small town economies which have been devastated by globalism. And yeah, California seems to like to kill industries and then wonder why they have rolling blackouts and high gas prices and so forth.
But this is a great scene and it was nice to see it again and laugh as if seeing it for the first time.
