"So I bought a mythological monster book and one tells a story of an islamic dragon who devours the moon and the sun explaining the eclipses.
According to the book
He tricked the people into thinking he was a god so he could drink from the gods potion of immortality, and when the sun and moon ratted him out to the real gods, they threw a discus and severed his head. Since he was immortal he remained alive, though his head eats the sun and the moon as a revenge and they escape from the vacancy of his body. While his body flies around almost aimlessly creating the light of a comet across the sky with his tail."
