The Eater is my creation, it's my dream-haunt. These are the monsters of my nightmares. (If you wanna know more check out: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/670401/ ). Think of them as a zombie demonic wolf/horse thing. =D
So this is an eater, with a size comparison to lets say, a 6 ft human male. Scary mo'fo.
Some random info on the species that I have decided on:
+ Eaters travel in herds from 20-60, with a distinct heirarchy based on strength and viciousness, like a demonic wolf-pack. Unlike wolves however, an Eater that looses a challenge is automatically killed.
+ Any injured Eater unable to defend itself is killed and eaten by other Eaters.
+ Eaters have no gender - every Eater can reproduce any time it feeds, by depositing several 'eggs' (look like fist-sized bloodclots) from an organ that holds these 'eggs' towards the back of it's throat.
+ Baby eaters only need 3-4 weeks to reach adult size, though they won't reach their full weight until they're about a year old. They cannot regurgitate eggs until they reach sufficient weight.
+ Baby eaters feed at first from the fresh kill they are deposited on; after that, the herd will bring them the remains of other kills until they can hunt for themselves.
+ Juivenile eaters are taught to hunt by the herd refusing to bring them food until they starve. They will eventually attack something in a desperate attempt to feed. If they can't hunt successfully, they will grow weak, and be eaten by the herd. Tough love in the extreme.
+ Eaters will eat any animal that moves.
+ Despite the wings, Eaters cannot fly. The wings are vestigal but good for scaring prey, something they love to do.
+ Eaters have very limited intelligence (something like a four year old) and emit eerie sounding screams that are too high pitched for human hearing to speak with each other. They are smarter in packs.
+ For all the fragile look of the Eater's limbs, they are not made of normal human bone, and will rests hundreds of pounds of pressure before breaking.
+ Eaters can go from 0 to 75 mph in about 5 seconds, though they can only stay at this speed for about 5 to 10 minutes. They can travel at about 40 to 50 mph for hours however, and can easily outdistance things. Hence they're penchant for playing with their food.
+ Wings come with age. An eater gets his wings when he reaches about 3 years of age, but they are very small at first. They reach full size after another year-ish of growing (full size depicted).

Most likely they would rip any unfortunate prey of theirs into large chunks, digesting it at their leisure back in the herd's 'area'. They can eat carrion or fresh meat, as long as it's meat, so they wouldn't care how long it took to finish a meal. They might even be smart enough to leave a human alive, ripping off it's arms and legs first and letting the poor soul bleed to death before they ate the torso.
Well you'd have to destroy some internal organs; they don't have a good circulatory system, so cutting off their head wouldnt cause them to bleed to death. And wouldn't do much else, considering that all their organs (brain, heart, lungs, everything but the egg sack) are located in that huge belly of theirs, surrounded by walls of thick cartilege and bone. But it's possible, if you got the perfect shot between bone, to slice open the belly. They'd die that way, eventually. But they would still be kicking (though not running) and dangerous for several hours. I'd advise running away; that badly an injured Eater would only be prey, and would attract more Eaters - which ya don't need.
