Long story short, I knew I was going to be getting a new tank from the manufacturer a couple weeks ago, so I decided to make use of my soon-to-be-old tank, and slap a GIANT SMILING KIO DECAL on it to complement the reflective Kio Stars on my helmet. It was fun to sport for a couple weeks, and I wanted to grab a shot before the new tank went on last week.

Indeed indeed! It's been wonderful to me, and I looooooove its clacky Ducky sound :D The only thing I'd change would be to magically give it a dry clutch, so I could get one of those hot-looking (overpriced) Rizoma clutch covers..
I hadn't realized you had Ducatis! What kind(s)?

I had a 2006 Sport Classic Monoposto with the full Ohlins suspension and Termi pipes, it was wrecked on a sabotaged stretch of road where some locals poured pea gravel in huge piles on some sharp turns to crash bikers :(
It had the dry clutch, was a fun bike, probably my all time fave.
Also had a '09 Monster 696, but it just didn't click with me, so I parted with it.

Awwww, my first bike was a 2002 Ninja 250, Kawi Green: http://pics.livejournal.com/keovi/pic/0005kz52
It was a great little starter bike, but I ended up doing a lot of freeway riding, and my particular bike started having some pretty serious issues that multiple mechanics were unable to resolve. We eventually decided it was time to move on to something bigger and more reliable, but I still hold a fond spot in my heart for those old-school Neenjas :p

Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaah banana seat ninjas! This one is mine: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/6270328/
I definitely love riding it; it's got a good amount of pick up (helps that I'm only like 120 lbs :P), and it's great for learning to ride on.
It sucks though because of my short inseam any 600cc+ bike has to be lowered >< My ideal next bike is a CBR600, but unless I practice on my friend's CBR600 and am able to comfortably come to stops and get my feet down, I'll have to get a lowering kit >__<

I'm juuuust barely 5'3", and I couldn't flat-foot on the Ninja. The seat height numbers are good for rough estimates of fit, but some 30" seats are narrower than others, which lets you reach the ground more easily, so I found that it really took actually sitting on and riding the bike to know for sure. The SV and Monster are within half an inch of each other, but the SV is a total no-go because of the seat shape. Conversely, the newest 250Rs are technically lower than the M620, but the way they're shaped, I fit better on the Duc. Go figure!
Oooh that is true! On a GSXR I sat on I was able to put the ball of my foot down for the most part, but the riding position is SO HORRIBLE I could never ride on that for long periods of time @_@ On my Ninja now I'm only flat foot on one foot at a time (have to slide my butt cheek off the seat X3). So yeah, That's definitely something I need to remember :P I'm driving my friend to pick up his CBR from the shop, so maybe I'll try sitting on different bikes while I'm at the dealership!
I'm in the same boat.. part of why I got the M620 is that it's one of the very few 250+ CC bikes I can fit on. And by fit, I mean tip-toes. I've considered getting it lowered a touch, for more confidence when walking it, but so far I've managed by being extra careful.
Your Ninja looks like it's in great condition! Thank you for sharing, I really do enjoy seeing other people's rides :p Keep having fun, and good luck with your dream CBR!

I wish it had been rust! That would mean I'd have a metal tank and wouldn't have to give up my favorite tank bag ;)
Ducati has been using composite tanks since 2006 (officially), and that's fine in every market except the US, because of the ethanol content in our fuel. The ethanol and composite don't play nicely, and moisture gets trapped within the tank, causing it to expand and warp. Mine wasn't terrible, but it was bad enough that I couldn't remove the tank to replace the air filter/do other maintenance, and Ducati offered me a new tank with no hassle, so I took 'em up on it. Unfortunately, they haven't addressed this problem yet, but they are at least doling out free tanks indefinitely.

I personally wouldn't let the issue prevent me from buying a Ducati; I already knew about it before I bought it, but I also researched and made sure that Ducati would give me a free replacement. I'm not sure how long the process took, but it's a 2006, so I'd say at least several years. My Ducati guy also said that it does seem to occur faster on: dark bikes, and bikes kept out in the sun for long periods. The previous owners parked it on the street, but I keep it in a garage, so I think that if it does swell again, it will take longer than before.
I do plan on getting the bike in black, which is odd since I hate black vehicles, but the 848 just looks great in it. However, I do have a garage to keep my bike in and I also have a good bike cover too for when it would be kept outside. Besides, maybe in the couple years until I purchase the new bike, maybe Ducati will have given some time and effort into researching a solution. Now, obviously I'm looking at a different model, but for the most part many parts and engine seem to be fairly similar between the Monster and their SBK, so how is maintenance on it? Is routine stuff such as oil or chains and plugs complicated any? I've heard some mechanics say it's a completely different bike to work on. One described it as "bass ackwards." lol
oooh nice 8D I need a proper name fo my bike, right now it's just "the bike" or "le vroom-vroom mobile"... XD someday I shall probably be able to afford a nice ducati, but for now I have my cbr250ra :) I guess I'm a bit lucky about my height, a bit taller than you are so 30 inch seats are easy enough for me :)
I *really* want to, but I've waffled because: money plus sawing off pieces of the frame intimidates me, and I keep thinking I miiiiight want to get the Ventura luggage system some day. It would be a much cleaner look to chop it, true, and I do prefer the chopped look, but for now I consider it a handy place to toss my gloves while I'm gearing up :p
