I had a dog who was exactly the same way, except she would take for or five kibbles at a time, drop them on the carpet, and then eat them one by one. She would only eat when the family was eating.

At least that's better then mine! He only takes one. I guess it's his way exercising :P

my dogs do the same thing. I think its only little dogs that do that.

My neighbors cat does that. She dips her hand in and pulls it out. So silly lol

Animals have such odd little quirks at times.

My dog does that too. And one of my cats. I'll never understand why they do that. Maybe it's a ploy so the other pets have to wait longer to eat, who knows.

I don't think so. My dogs never want to eat at the same time or fight over it(we leave a bowl out).

My dogs are nothing like that. They INHALE their food. They eat so fast they get hiccups sometimes.

My other, Kira, is like that. Well, she doesn't do it with her kibble, but if we give her a treat, she'll inhale it, no chewing at all and sometimes throws up. We have to make sure the pieces are small enough to not harm her.

Doggies like to eat their food where they're most comfortable, I heard! :) Our doggy does it too, her bowl's in the kitchen and she grabs 4 or 5 kibbles and walks to the living room and puts em all down on the carpet where she'll eat em. When she's brave she'll drop them on the doormat in the kitchen and eat them there, but she doesn't do that very often :P

That does make sense, but sounds different then Ryley. He takes on, turns away from the bowl, then goes back. He doesn't put any on the ground or in a special spot either (if we give him a treat, hell eat it where he's comfy). Almost looks like he doesn't want crumbs in the bowl lol

Our doggy was also a bit anxious about the metal bowl, maybe that's it? Maybe he doesn't like how it sounds when the kibbles rummage around in it? :P

I don't think so. He's been doing that with every bowl we give him and we adopted him so it probably started with his old family.

The bowl we have right now is those dispensers. You fill it out and it keeps food coming out for a long time, it's plastic so it doesn't make much noise. We used to have a water one as well, but as soon as my other dog Kira heard the bubbles, she never went near it and would even rather dehydrate so we switched it with a regular bowl.

Oh ya, they're perfect if you know you'll be gone for a bit, then you just need the neighbors to check up on them, though it's rare we leave them home alone for days, my dad tends to want them around all the time and brings them along if he can.

Maybe it'd be worth putting the bowl in that room? Either he likes being away from the bowl or just wants to eat in that specific room.

Actually it's easier just to have another one of the dogs in the same room as the food bowl, in which case he hogs the bowl and tries to eat til he explodes just to ensure nobody else gets any

Oh wow, that sucks. I've heard it's a pretty common problem with pets. I'm pretty lucky, non of mine do it (but kira will steal ryleys treats). When I give only one bowl to my two cats, they take turns even though one is half the size of the other.

Meh, I think it's because he's a chihuahua, all the other animals get along and share just fine, the other dogs will even share with the cats without a problem lol

my dog does that! she walks away into the living room or the dinning room and eats food there but then goes back to the kitchen and grabs more and goes back to where she eats it XD

XD my dog is worse than that. He will grab a mouthfull of dogfood walk into the livingroom spit it on the ground then eat them one at a time making sure he got all before he repeats the process again.

All 3 of my grandmothers little rat dogs do that.

Actually, it's more like he WANTS us to see. When he turns, he's facing us. And when the bowl was in the kitchen (we have a connecting living room and kitchen), he walk so the "doorway" and look at us, then go back.

Actually I meant the other pieces of food, he doesn't want the other pieces of food to see him getting them one by one, haha

but it could be that too, "I'mma good dog and eating my food"

So far we've had a miniature dachshund, mini doberman pinscher, and a Pomeranian that have all done this exact thing. Must be a little dog thing.

My mom has owned two Maltese who have eaten the same way. The oldest one - who passed away many years ago - would take food from his bowl in the kitchen and carry it into the dining room to eat it. Lather, rinse, repeat.
The younger one will sometimes eat over her bowl (she's a much pickier dog and mom has to practically hover over her to make sure she eats), but usually will carry it over to the dining room and eat it near the doorway... after she's tossed it around for a moment, rolled on it, and played catch with herself.

This is the exact thing my ferret does XD Pick up the food, run out of her cage, go hide under the couch, eat the food, come back to the cage, get another piece, repeat. X3

Haha, I love doggie eating quirks. My boyfriend's dog flattens himself out on the floor, hugs the bowl then drops in face into the food. Mine just eats like a drunk person at Waffle House who has never seen food before.
