Zap runs a weather factory that generates electricity to keep stormclouds charged. In the off-weather periods, the energy is instead sent to power Cloudsdale and Ponyville. Part of the hazards on the job is that stormclouds are volatile and work-related accidents are frequent. As such, Zapper's developed a tolerance to shock, and he can fly right through a lightning storm without any serious injury.

He's no faster than any other common pegasi, but having to oversee such a delicate job has given him a very quick reaction speed and agility, as is necessary to prevent potential injury to himself or others if something goes wrong.
