I found a propper pic of the otterpaws to post up. Here's the finished gloves. They were near impossable to cast, maybe one cast in five would come out without holes or bubbles. In the end i got maybe 5 pairs cast before the mould died. All of which I distributed to ottery friends.

I was using Ultra-Cal, as it happens. That wasn't the problem...
I use wax to sculpt with as its much nicer to work with than oil-clay and doesn't dry out like water based clay.
It also means I can melt wax out of the mould in the oven, so long as I dont get the plaster too hot.
Well, with these, I got the plaster too hot, simple as that.

Yeah, I hate how little time you get to make mother moulds from clay sculptures. Sadly, for the level of detail most masks need, it does just fine. For super high detail I use plastalina, but it's ass to work with.
Have you ever tried flexible molding. Silicone reinforced molds are what I make a lot of castings with. And they last like, years.

Oooh, dont get me started on silicone. Silicone would be great, not least because silicone stretches three times as much. But making paws like that with silicone would be tricky, and experimentation costly.
PS: Take a hollow plaster mould, fill it with latex, slush it around, pour the latex out again. The latex stuck to the walls of the plaster dries and what your left with is a slush cast.

Have you done anything with Smooth-On's "Dragon Skin"? I hear the stuff is incredible, but I haven't had the opportunity to play with molds and casting and rubber and stuff. :D ( http://www.smooth-on.com/liqrubr.htm ) I wanna try making something sometime with it. Or with their foam stuff. :B
Sorry, I shouldn't be so blunt - Dragon skin is great stuff. My old silicone was highly toxic and its unreal being able to work with Smooth on's stuff without even a respirator.
But it's not the magical unicorn spunk certain furs seem to think it is. It gets air bubbles, its not really suited for slush casting and you'd need a complicated multi part mould to cast a glove. (Ok you can use fiberglass instead of plaster, but thats a whole other level of complication)
All those problems could be overcome with experimentation, but I'd use up hundreds of dollars of Silicone in the process.
And no ones prepared to pay $500 for a pair of gloves...
Although, come to think of it, if there is anyone who does, feel free to message ;OP

Hey, I'm actually going down to work with an old Henson affiliate on a project to make some fursuit head moulds. We're going to use fiberglass and stuff I just hope it comes out well, I only have a couple weekends or a week to play with the stuff, He has way too many ideas, lol like me, but he has the space i lack to experiment with things, he has an entire warehouse and separate building for a workshop. I cant wait to play with it its got me all buzzing lol I never worked with foam rubber before but i had alot of masks made of it in the past. There were allot of air bubbles in them. I wonder if theres a way to get the material to not produce so much gas, maybe toss in some tums or something lol
I may not be a fursuiter (so I may be out of place here) but i definately have to say WOW! Now only if I had the money/time to try something like that but in a dragon-paw format, then I might start doing some sort of costuming stuff, but alas, I don't have the money/time as of right now.
