Chapter 2: The Legend
We are the Chasers. We’re a band of Pokemon experts dedicated to tracking down and capturing the legendary Pokemon. So far, we haven’t had much luck. All we’ve managed to do is chase stories and legends. If it keeps up like this, there’s been talk of disbanding. And on top of that, even if we find them, who knows if we’re even going to be able to catch them? But I’ll track him down if it kills me. Entei. One day I’ll find you. And then I’ll repay you for what you did.
There’s a legend. The person who captures a legendary Pokemon will obtain unbelievable power. To even behold a legendary Pokemon is incredible. Most people don’t even know when they see one. It’s just a blur. But to the trained eye it’s an unbelievable sight. They say only the chosen can ever confront the creature, but only one in a million will ever gain its trust. I heard of a group determined to find the legendary dogs. So I joined for my own personal reasons. What I want is just one moment with it, to say thank you for all it’s done for not only me, but for everyone.
My name? Just call me Ice. It’s my codename. I’ve gone to four regions now and passed the Pokemon League in each. My badge total is currently at 32. My Battle Frontier record stands at 3 silver prints, and 2 silver medals. I haven’t put much effort into it. My roster at the moment includes my Swampert, Gardevior, my Gardevoir, Luxray, Staraptor, Bronzong, and Fluffy, my Arcanine. I’ve also got a Lucario, Grovyle, and Salamence that I occasionally pull out, depending on my roster and needs. Each of them has a different story, and each of them I love and respect. They’re all males, if anyone cares about that, except Bronzong, who’s genderless, and Gardevior, whose the only female of the bunch. Swampert’s the strongest of the bunch, at Level 100. He was my first Pokemon. He can Surf you anywhere in a heartbeat. I named Gardevior his name because when I first read the name, I thought the letters were switched. And the name kind of stuck when I finally caught a Ralts. She’s the fourth strongest. Luxray, I just think Luxrays are awesome. I dare you to find a higher attack stat, because I’ve trained this thing in the art of attack since it was a Shinx. He’s third strongest. He’s also the common sense of the bunch and gives everyone a good electric shock when they need it. Staraptor was the first Pokemon I ever caught. He’s a good Flier, and its specialty is speed. Him and Swampert will never, EVER leave my roster. He’s the second strongest of the bunch.
Bronzong is only in my party because I have to have a Pokemon that can keep Entei from running away. Not a good matchup, I know. It’s the weakest. Usually he’s the one I switch out with the other three in my PC whenever I need to battle. Then there’s Fluffy. He is VERY energetic, and has been extremely playful and friendly ever since he was a Growlithe. He likes to bite things, unfortunately, but he’s fun once you get to know him. Grovyle is the one that’s usually in my roster instead of Bronzong. He’s actually stronger than Fluffy. The reason I haven’t evolved him into a Sceptile is for three reasons: one, I don’t like the way a Sceptile looks, two, he is the definition of an incomplete roster. You can always do better, since there’s no perfect roster. So I keep him a Grovyle to remind me of that. Third, I took a test to see what kind of Pokemon I would most be like, and it turns out I’m a Grovyle. Go figure.
Salamence is what I like to call, “The Big Guns”. When I need some serious power and speed mixed in with some good resistances, I call on him. I raised my Lucario from a little egg, and when I first saw him hatch, I kid you not, I went, “It’s a baby LucarioAWWWWWWW!!!”. I just can’t let him go. He was too adorable! So yeah, you’ve probably noticed by now that even though my codename is Ice, there isn’t a single ice-type in my roster. Well, that’s not why they call me Ice. They call me Ice because they found me lying unconscious up in the mountains in a pile of snow. And I never feel cold. Ever. Well, when you’re stuck up in the mountains for an hour with nothing but a sweater on you begin to feel cold, but still. In actuality, I feel more like a fire-type than an ice-type, which kind of creates some irony.
The reason I want to catch Entei is because he saved my life on that mountain. See, I got stuck up on Mount Coronet, and snow was falling everywhere. There wasn’t a cave anywhere to be found, and I didn’t have any supplies to keep me warm. So I called out my Pokemon to try and keep me warm until help arrived. But help never did. Eventually, we all realized one of us was going to die up there. So I called back my Pokemon to keep them warm in their Poke Balls to at least try and save them. As I felt the heat leaving my body, I heard a bird cry. I looked up and saw Articuno staring down at me. Legend has it that Articuno appears before lost travelers that are going to die in the snow, kind of like an icy grim reaper. Guess the legend is true. It was about to embrace me in its icy wings when I saw fire shoot in-between us. And that’s when I first saw Entei. It came up to me and warmed me up. It was like a miracle. His fur was extremely warm, but that’s natural coming from a fire-type. Sometime between then and when the Chasers found me I fell unconscious. And that’s why I need to find Entei, to thank him for saving my life.
The Chasers aren’t just focused on the Legendary Dogs, we focus on finding all the legendary Pokemon for further research. For example, one person is researching why Darkrai stays anchored in his own dimension. Others want to know about the legendary birds and their connection to Lugia. We all have our purpose for wanting to find them, but so far none of us have succeeded. But I don’t care if I have to do this myself. I’ll find Entei one day. But enough of that, you’re probably interested in our mission. The action. And it should start right about here…
Chapter 3:
“ENTEIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII!!!!!!”
A lone boy riding on a motorcycle appeared over the ridge above Entei. He was holding some gun in his hand. He lined it up and fired. Entei tried to rush under him, but something struck him in his left side. He let out a roar. Suddenly, he disappeared in a flash. The motorcycle crashed to the ground and the boy toppled off of it. He groaned as he picked himself up and dusted himself off. “Okay, that was a bad idea.” He walked over to the motorcycle to make sure it was still working. The engine roared when he tried the accelerator. He picked up the radio microphone on his motorcycle. “I couldn’t get any damage in. He was too fast out there.”
“Dang it listen to what I’m telling you next time!” Yelled the voice on the other side of the radio. The boy felt a sinking feeling in his stomach. Did he miss? “But it’s good. You got the shot on him. Just don’t pull a stunt like that again or you’re fired.” He let out a sigh.
“Target has warped heading northeast towards Route 32.” Came another voice on the radio.
“Alright, that’s out of our range right now. We’re going back to Stalk Mode, people, you’re free to ride the skies.”
“I’m heading into Olivine to stock up on supplies,” said the boy, “Anybody need anything?”
“Yeah, a few canisters of Fresh Water and as many Ultra Balls as you can carry in that thing.”
“You got it. Signing off.” He put the radio microphone back into place and got on his motorcycle. He sped off towards Olivine City. It didn’t take long when he followed the ridge there. The tell-tale lighthouse loomed over the city. He sped through the streets to a building with a blue roof on it. He shut off the engine and removed his helmet. “Hey, Ice!” yelled a voice. Ice turned around to see Poison running towards him. “What’s going on?” asked Ice. Poison gave him a whack on the head. “Idiot! You blew right past me! How am I supposed to know what to do unless you tell me where he is?”
“What did I do? All I did was try and stay on his tail! What more do you want?”
“I little more reaction time! Soon as I heard you were heading for the ridge I made a mad dash here and find you in front of the Pokemart! Did he make it to the beach or something?”
“Oh my gosh you haven’t heard what’s happening. No, I got the tracking device on him after I rode off the top of the ridge. I’m here to pick up some Ultra Balls.”
“Wait, you WHAT? That’s fantastic! We can finally track Entei! Who would’ve thought that we’d get your Pokemon first?”
“By the way, how have you been since… you know…”
“Since Steel left?” Poison let out a sigh, “Yeah, I knew that was going to come up sooner or later. She was so great. I wish she would have stuck around to see Palkia.”
“Well, as soon as we catch Entei, we’ll go looking for Palkia on our own. Deal?”
“Yeah, deal. You’re lucky, you know. Seeing two legendary Pokemon at the same time.”
“I wasn’t that lucky. Articuno was trying to kill me!” They entered the mart. They walked up to the counter. “Hi, can I help you?” the man said. Ice pulled off his pack. “Yeah, just give me a second,” he started rummaging through his pack. “4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 13. I’ll take 17 Ultra Balls and… 2, 4, 6, 7… eight Hyper Potions.” The man was shocked. “Yeah, we’re going to be out in the field for a while. I’ve got the money, don’t worry.” The man started gathering things from the shelves. “By the way, which Pokemon are you interested in capturing, Poison? Well, besides Palkia.”
“Mew.”
“Mew?”
“Yeah. Not only can it transform into anything, but it has unbelievable psychic powers.” The man returned with a box full of goods with a smirk on his face. “That’ll be 30,000.” Ice pulled out his wallet and placed a stack of bills on the counter. The man looked at the money in disbelief. “Oh wait, I’ve got a Big Pearl here!” said Ice. He handed over the pearl and took a few bills back. He then started stuffing the merchandise into its proper compartments. The two walked out as the man stood there still gawking in disbelief.
Ice walked over to the motorcycle and picked up the microphone. “We still clear to Fly?” he asked.
“Entei’s approaching Blackthorn from the South. You’re fine.”
“Thanks, Psychic.” Ice threw a Poke ball into the air and out popped a Staraptor. “Staraptor, let’s go to Goldenrod.” Staraptor flew high into the sky. “Meet you there,” said Poison as he threw his Poke ball as well. Ice grabbed his motorcycle and jumped. Staraptor flew under him and they flew off into the distance. “Alright, Crobat,” said Poison.
Ice landed in front of the Pokemon center in Goldenrod City. Psychic was in his usual tent next to it. He was monitoring the various equipment in it. Next to the tent was a car for transporting the equipment quickly from city to city. “Where’s Poison?” asked Psychic. “He should be here any second,” said Ice. A few moments later Poison plopped down in the same place Ice had landed. He called back his Crobat and walked over to the tent. “What’s our next assignment?”
“Entei’s getting a little antsy. It’s heading towards Mount Silver. We think it might be trying to make a break for the Kanto region.”
“So we’re moving soon?”
“That seems to be the case.”
“And we just got situated, too,” said Ice, “Okay, you could have told me this BEFORE I left Olivine! I could have ridden the ferry!”
“Sorry. Kind of slipped my mind.”
“Where’s Fire?”
“Somewhere near Cherrygrove City. He’s trying to block Entei in along with the others in Blackthorn."
“That’s a one-way trip on those two roots. They’re not going to have much luck.”
“I tried to tell him that myself, but he just wouldn’t listen.”
“How many people do we have left to catch Entei, anyway?”
“Well, there’s you, me, Poison there, Fire, Dark, Fighting, Steel,-
“Steel left.”
“I keep forgetting that. Dark, Fighting, Bug, Dragon, and do we still have Water?”
“She’s threatened to quit, but I don’t think she has yet.”
“So that makes 9. We’re really dwindling here.” Suddenly, it became dark. “Son of a- is it nighttime already?” Psychic picked up the radio microphone next to him. “Okay, guys. Time to call it a day. Night just hit.”
“We’re on our way in,” came the reply. Then came the usual conversation over the radio.
“Remind me why exactly we keep chasing this thing day after day?”
“You want to find Rayquaza, don’t you Dragon?”
“This is Bug. I’m heading back to Goldenrod from Violet.”
“All I’m saying is that we haven’t caught a single Pokemon since we started this little fan club of ours. It would be one thing if we could get a tracker on these things, but we’re searching blind here!”
“Well Ice just got one on Entei today. That’s how we knew it was in Blackthorn.”
“Dark here. I’m heading back from Azalea.”
“Water reporting in. Another wasted day at the Lake of Rage. Remind me why I haven’t quit yet?”
“Because you want to find Mesprit?”
“Shut up Dragon! You’re in the same boat I am!”
“Guys, let’s keep the chatter to a minimum! We’ll talk later after everyone’s back in Goldenrod.”
“Fire, give it a rest. We go through this every day.”
“Dark, you’re not helping!”
“I am seriously calling it quits this time! I have had it and I’m sick of all of you anyways.”
“You’ve said that at least 20 times already…”
“Shut up, Dark!”
“GUYS! Everyone just shut up and we can talk back at Goldenrod! Psychic, turn off the radio signal, for crying out-”
“This is Dark! I was headed through Ilex Forest when I thought I spotted Celebi! I need reinforcements down here as soon as possible!”
“We’re on our way! All units head for Ilex Forest! We’re not letting another one by us!”
Normally I only post one chapter a day, but these two kind of go together, so I have to post them together. Two for the price of one.
