Like most spiders, it has venom, but it isn't dangerous.

They're quite harmless, although their size is intimidating. Their bite can be painful, but it's nothing to worry about. They won't bite unless you harass them. They just sit on their web all day.

Yeah, I'm afraid to go there. :P

I have big spiders here, but they take it to a whole new level there.

Japan also has some very large Golden-silk weavers as well.

Holy cripes, that's a big sucker. I'm not overly spider-phobic, but all the same I'm kinda glad we don't have those things around in California.

There were a bunch of leftovers that I couldn't quite identify. I'd imagine she gets a lot of flying beetles, probably some moths and butterflies, and maybe bees.

Ill bet her venom is killer, she doesnt look like a "webber" type that relies on rapid silk tie ups.

I saw a small fat spider at work eat a moth. Damn thing tore it up. not just drank from the thing.

I see a lot of leaf beetles getting eaten by spiders in my yard. They like to tear apart all the shell segments. It's pretty interesting.

Yes. You can see it better in the first photo. It's an adult male. It shares the web with the female. There is also another male in the web, but he's a bit smaller and stays on the fringe.

I remember when an orb weaver decided to grace my parents' garden with its presence in NC. Beautiful dinner-plate-sized web on the rock wall, with a perfect zig-zag down the center, and this multicolored decorative spider eternally perched in the center. At least, for that year. Sadly, we never saw any more in the garden after that year. :/
