Spiders are a valuable part of the ecosystem. And orb weavers are very good for gardens.. *runs screaming in the opposite direction*

Pretty much the biggest we have around here. The Argiopes are similar size as well, but I haven't seen any lately.

She's a beautiful spider...makes you want to touch the fur on her legs. XD Don't know if I'd be brave enough to hold one of those, though, unlike smaller spiders...XD

I'd probably avoid touching her. She might not like being disturbed too much and her jaws are big enough to make me want to avoid being on her bad side. :P

Yea. I've found that if you let spiders run into your hands or give them a nudge in rather than poking them or prodding them or pinching them, they don't bite. It works if you're not afraid...I believe they can pick up on fear, and it makes them nervous, sometimes.

Even if I could get one of those in the right position, though...don't know if I'd dare. It's not so much having the bite, it's being afraid of getting it and perhaps actually seeing and feeling yourself recieve it...XD

Wonderful shot, though. I really love your fascination with spiders, it's inspiring when most people just want to murder them. -.-

I have an irrational fear of spiders, of which I'm working to get over (which taking these photos helps with quite a bit).

However, my fear is overshadowed by my fascination for spiders and insects.

I'm crazy scared of them, but I don't want to hurt them.

Our "banana spiders" are far different looking, but have surprisingly similar habits.

GAH! It's the dreaded Banana Spider! Ugh! Ugh! I can't believe you got that close to one. They give me nightmares!

Still, their little black fuzzy leg-warmers they have at their joints are kinda cute. In a gross way.

I once had a dream where my room was filled with like 50 of these things. :P

I'd die. I'd wake up in Heaven, cause I'd have passed on from a heart attack.

Oddly enough, it wasn't a very stressful dream. Which is odd, because in reality I would be totally freaking out and having a panic attack.

In the dream, it was just an inconvenience.

Her leg span approached 5 inches from front to back. The body was close to 1.5 Inches.
